FIELD PARK UPDATES:
MAP Timing Guidelines and Key Conversations
Later this month, all children in grades 3-8 will once again take the MAP assessment in reading, math and science (6-8 only). Consistent with ongoing efforts to help students understand the purpose of these tests and reduce anxiety toward standardized assessment, we will be implementing timing guidelines and key conversations in the new year. Teachers will overview the following information (see attachment, below) with students prior to testing as they talk about purpose, talk about the questions, talk about growth and learning, and talk about what to expect.
Please take a few moments to review this handout. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students understand the value of MAP testing and helping us "frame" testing for what it is: one short measure of growth and learning, amidst many! Our goal with these conversations and guidelines are to help students demystify and decrease anxiety around testing as well as to hold rational expectations for their performance and experience with the tests.
Flu Season Health Guidelines - from Our District Nurse
Flu Season
Flu season is upon us. Basic good health practices will limit the spread of infection. Please review them with your child. These include good nutrition and hydration, proper personal hygiene, and sufficient rest. Hand washing is most important.
GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW FOR KEEPING YOUR ILL CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
The following guidelines are to assist in deciding when to keep your child home from school:
Any student presenting with a temperature of 100 degrees or greater
Vomiting or diarrhea
Rash of an unknown origin
Eyes that are pink with crusting, itching or drainage
Severe cold symptoms
It is suggested if a student is sent home with any of these conditions, they should remain at home at least the next day to assure that they are well. This will also assist in decreasing the risk of exposure to other students.
We appreciate your attention to this serious issue. Following these recommendations will help to keep all of our students healthy.
Suspicious Incident Notice - La Grange PD
Thanks!
Smart Watch Update
Please help us foster strong communication and self-advocacy skills in our kids as we ask them to address concerns during the school day with their teacher, the nurse, or our office staff.
Thanks!
Coffee with Dr. Coffey: What's Your Hot Topic?
Please join Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sarah Coffey in a questions, answers & open discussion session on Friday, January 24 from 9-10am in the Field Park conference room. Share lingering questions about District 101 curriculum, instruction and/or assessment, or just listen to the discussion! We hope to see you there!

The Western Springs Foundation for Educational Excellence (WSFEE) Board is excited to announce the approval of several grants so far this academic year; we will highlight one grant each week in the Principal Updates at each school. This week, we’ll continue to learn more about Renovation for Innovation (R4I) with a quick video tour of a classroom that underwent renovation for the 2019-2020 school year: 8th Grade English Language Arts teacher Erin Mesch!
If you have a great idea to enhance the learning of our D101 students, but seek the funding, consider submitting a grant request. Please visit WSFEE’s website at www.wsfee.org.
