Principal's Weekly Bulletin
Ross Elementary School June 7, 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We currently have 167 students enrolled for next year. Thank you for your attention to this important task.
OSSE and DCPS have released guidance for families who wish to keep their children learning virtually next year. Only children with a medical (physical or mental) health need as confirmed by a medical professional will be considered for a virtual learning spot. Please note that family members' health status, such as a parent or grandparent, will not suffice. Please also note that DCPS will not guarantee your child will be taught virtually by a Ross staff member. Your child may be cross enrolled in a DCPS led virtual academy taught by DCPS staff not assigned to Ross.
If you are approved for virtual learning, it is a semester long commitment. Please see the attachments from OSSE for details.
Action Steps:
1. Re-enroll in school
2. Visit your child's healthcare provider to complete the medical exemption form.
3. Submit the form online (or bring it to Ross for help submitting)
If your child is still learning from home and has a DCPS issued device, we need that device returned to Ross by Friday, June 25.
Wishing you continued good health. Please continue to visit coronavirus.dc.gov for the most current COVID information for DC residents.
Best Regards,
Holly

Rising K-1 Parent Meeting
After a one-year hiatus due to distance learning, Ross is excited to announce the return of our multiage, Kindergarten/1st Grade (K1) instructional model in the fall. Since 2016, we have experienced great academic and social-emotional success with having Kindergarten-age and 1st grade-age children learning together in the same classrooms, and for the 2021-22 school year, we will be opening up three multiage, K1 classrooms on the first floor.
Families of rising Kindergartners and rising 1st graders are invited to join the K1 team on Monday, June 21, at 5:00 to learn more about K1 at Ross. The meeting will be recorded and shared for families who cannot attend in person.
We know you might have specific questions you would like addressed at this meeting, and we invite you to share those questions here:
We will do our best to answer all submitted questions during the meeting, but please note that we will not be able to answer any questions about health and safety guidance/protocols for next year, as these have yet to be determined and communicated by DCPS and OSSE (Office of the State Superintendent of Education).
