Tiger Beat
Acton Weekly Update 9/6/19
Things to Know
Airways begins this week. Grade 3-5 teachers, please let Brook and Jen know when you are administering the test and remember to reserve the extra Chromebook carts. Megan and Courtney, you will need to watch the administration video in the attachments emailed to you on Thursday. This year BOY/MOY/ EOY all will test end of year standards. There will be no more 2/3 and 1/3 of previous year and this year standards. We do need to start thinking about students taking Airways however/ wherever they will for ILEARN. We don't have to start with our BOY test, but MOY we will want to start putting small groups and determining our testing environments.
Since we have achieved our FIRST prize on our Million Minute Challenge path, it is time for each classroom to sign up for a 20 minute session in the Tigers Den. I've put a sign up sheet on the Tigers Den door for times between 9:30-3:00. Please choose a time slot in the next two weeks and put your name on the door sign up sheet. Please accompany and supervise your class in the room and enjoy. Be sure the room is cleaned up when you are done!
Does anyone need calculators? This came up at our principal's meeting. I haven't had anyone talk to me about this, but was wondering if there are classrooms that don't have calculators and they are needed in our EDM curriculum.
Master Schedule: We are past our D5 launch, through our first CFA cycle, our GR data is complete and we've moved away from morning meetings to Brainsmart Start! Yay! We've accomplished a lot already this year. Now, I'd like us to really focus on adhering to the master schedule minutes as much as possible. I know we don't have built in bathroom breaks and some transitions, but Brainsmart Start should not last more than the 10 minutes allotted and recess should only be 20 minutes. Let's work hard to keep to the schedule and make every minute count!

Below is a fantastic link to a very short (1:36 minutes) but informative video showing how you can use your Scholastic site to help you with grouping students. It even gives you skills to work on based on your groups and the data you have already entered in for each student. It really is very helpful!
I really enjoyed working with each grade level this week to help make GR groups and group our students for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. We really got a lot accomplished and our students are going to be well supported by our instructional assistants! The IAs will officially be starting Tier 2 push-in groups and Tier 3 pull-out groups next week based on the students and skills you provided. I have helped them gather resources and have worked with them on how to run an effective teacher table. I will be supporting our two new gen. ed. IAs while they run teacher tables in your classrooms next week. I want to make sure they feel supported and empowered to run a successful and effective table with our kiddos.
Below are important upcoming dates:
GR data entered into Scholastic by Sept. 6th
1st GR table up and running by Sept. 9th
All 3 GR tables up and running by Sept. 16th
Cycle 2 Pre-Assessment given on 9/9
Cycle 2 Pre-Assessment discussed on 9/11

General
- Krissy and I talked about creating a system for older students who are walking down on their own to see me now that I am in a new spot. I plan on making a sign for my door stating where I am. I will also be creating a pass for those older students to use so we don't have students taking advantage and wandering around the building. So be on the look out for that!
Camp Care A Lot
- Camp Care A Lot will start next week on Mondays and Thursdays.
- K-2 will be on Mondays and 3-5 will be on Thursdays.
- I will make sure students know what they are supposed to do and I think it will be so nice that I am right across from the cafeteria! I am jazzed to get started.
Conscious Discipline
- My goal is start creating videos of me and students using conscious discipline and sharing those with you all. I will start to add videos in each section of the google drive of videos conscious discipline has created so you can see the tools in action.
- Brain smart start club: If you have students that seem to love brain smart start please let me know! I would like to get students involved on learning the songs and featuring them on announcements.
- I highly recommend following CD on Instagram/Facebook if you have one! They post a lot of videos and ideas. Also Dr. Becky Bailey has a podcast and she has had Dr. Heather Finn, Dr. Toni Stevenson, and Lynlie Schoene!
Podcasts with Dr. Becky Bailey and people in our district!

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus
The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
