Homework|
We currently don't have a homework policy that details what homework should look like. But there is some language around general expectations in our handbook. Here's what it says in our handbook.
Homework is an important way to extend learning time and teach students independence and responsibility. Families serve a key role in supporting students in completing their homework on a daily basis.
AWE emphasizes reading for homework, and students are expected to complete a daily reading log. Students may enjoy reading alone, reading to someone else, or being read to by an adult/older child. Parents and family members are also encouraged to model daily reading. Daily reading times are:
Expected Time Spent Reading Daily
Kindergarten and 1st grade: 30 mins
2nd-5th grades: 1 hour or more
Essentially homework should be at student independent level; whether it is reading or math.
Ms. Horwitz checks in with a team of 4th graders who are at work analyzing a Robert Frost poem.
Hallways|
Intervention has begun and it is super important that we keep the hallways extremely quite. This means quite lines as we transition to an from recess/lunch, limited bathroom trips, and closing classroom doors during loud classroom activities.
Yard Duty|
Make sure to make arrangements for someone to cover your yard duty when you are out.
Buddy Seating During Lunch|
We have begun seating students with their Buddies during lunch. Julissa is coordinating this effort and has asked that everyone make sure your Buddy list is accurate.
