Adult & Community Education
Tuesday in the Know - September 21, 2017
Message from the Leadership Team
We have all certainly been through a lot this past week and many are still facing huge challenges before getting our lives back to normal. Many of us are patiently still waiting for power and water. As we continue to get ready for our students know that our schools have survived the storm with minimal damage. Lorenzo Walker suffered most of its damage externally with its landscaping which has been mostly all cleaned up.
As we return to classes next week we are looking forward to continuing where we left off. We will need to make the most of our abbreviated session that has approximately 35 hours until mid-October. During this time it is important to focus our instruction on listening activities and student-lead conversations. The district has provided "A Post-Hurricane Discussion Guide" that can be used to facilitate positive conversations about a recent event we all experienced.
You may also want to share the FEMA website with your students. The content on this website is available in multiple languages and is the start for applying for FEMA assistance.

It is never to early to start practicing listening strategies for the CASAS test at the end of the semester. If you aren't aware already, Burlington English is a great teacher resource to practice listening and reading test taking skills.
The students have been enjoying using the individual whiteboards (which are found at all sites) to practice listening questions on BE.
