Anya's Ghost
By Vera Brosgol
What's This All About?
Anya's ghost tells the story of a Russian girl attending a New England Boarding School. She is a slight oddball at school, trying her best to fit in. After alluding school one day, she wanders into the woods, falling into an abandoned well. There she finds a skeleton, and with it, the ghost of a young girl. The ghost, named Emile, follows her home and attempts to help her fit in at school. Eventually, Anya realizes that fitting in is not that important and must try to explain this to Emile. Emile doesn't take the news well, and attacks Anya and her family.
Why You Should Consider This
Anya's Ghost is well written and has an interesting plot to it. It tells the story of a young girl trying to fit in at school, something that most high school kids do tend to worry about. In the end, Anya does realize that fitting in is not that important, something that everyone should know. You just have to stay true to yourself, which is what the book is all about. The pictures follow along with the dialogue wonderfully and add details to the overall plot. All in all, this graphic novel is very good book and you'll never see the end coming.

My Favorite Character
My favorite character would have to be Anya. She is the main character, which is important, but this is not the only reason why I like her. She learns to stay true to herself and her family, a very important lesson to learn.
