A Note from Ms. Owens

We had our first fire/evacuation drill of the school year today, and I have to share that is was successful. We had a smooth and fast exit from the building. Students were silent and attentive throughout the drill. Prior to the drill, I encouraged students to offer a prayer of thanksgiving for the first responders who would be coming to our aid if this had been an actual crisis.

Beginning next Wednesday, September 21, our Extracurricular Activity Eligibility Guidelines for 5th-8th grade will begin. Parents and guardians with children in grades 5-8 should read the guidelines linked above so they are familiar with eligibility criteria and ramifications for becoming ineligible.

Our newly-elected Student Council has jumped right in to their work. They have planned some fun activities for next week which will culminate in an all-school pep rally on Friday, September, 23. Please scroll down for more information!

When reporting a child's absence, please contact Mary Nelson with that information. Parents/guardians can call the school number - 708-425-5547 - or send an email to mnelson@scaoaklawn.org.

Spirit Days at SCA!

Next week, Student Council has planned some spirited events for Homecoming. The details are in the above flier designed by Mia Havelka, our publicity commissioner.

  • Classes will be able to participate in St. Catherine-themed trivia questions throughout the week.
  • On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, students can dress out of uniform. The themes for each day are listed above.
  • On Friday, we will have an all-school pep rally at 1:30PM. The pep rally will be outside so we can more easily accommodate the parents and guardians we expect will want to attend. If you plan on attending, we encourage you to bring a lawn chair.

The Sunday Collection

As many of us still attend church virtually, we do not have the opportunity to contribute to the Sunday collection. However, parishioners can easily set up recurring contributions via Give Central.

Visit the link below to set up your recurring contribution. Donors can change the amount of the contribution or pause it at any time.

Ways to Support Our Local Small Businesses

For many years, our small business neighbor have been stalwart partners with St. Catherine through offering Eat & Earns, sponsoring SCA events and offering discounts when the school places orders. Now is the time for our SCA community to show our support of these amazing small businesses. Please take the time to visit the "live" buttons below, and, if you are able, support them.

If you know of an SCA family who owns a small business that we can publicize here to help support them, please reach out to me via email.
