Sea Dragon's Diary
Welcome Back! Mr. Chabola's Weekly Communication
Welcome to Lin Howe 2021-2022
Dear Lin Howe Community,
Welcome Back Lin Howe Sea Dragons!!!
As we begin the 2021-2022 school year I understand that many of us are nervous, scared, and excited about the upcoming year. This year, more than any other year, we will focus on building relationships with those that we may have lost touch with, those that are new to our community, and to those that we may not have reached out to before. We will be welcoming our new students, new families, new staff, and old staff in new positions. The building of relationships will need to happen in the classroom, across a grade level, across our site, across our staff, and extend to our families and community.
At the district level we will be welcoming a new superintendent, a new Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, a new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and a new Director of K-12 Curriculum. At our site we are welcoming 5 new teachers, a new Assistant Principal, a Multi- Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) leader, the return of our full time Teacher Learning Partner (TLP), and an additional intervention teacher.
I challenge myself, our support team, our staff, and each one of you to reach out to make new, refreshed, and renewed relationships with all our students, staff, and family members. I would also like to challenge each of you to reach out to someone that you may have lost connection with or haven’t connected with before. It will be together that we are able to move forward and grow our Lin Howe community.
As a staff and school community we will continue our journey in creating spaces that are equitable and celebrate diversity and inclusion. We will continue our family education series and our staff development sessions. This summer I continued on my journey by attending a week- long conference on “Dismantling White Supremacy Culture in Schools”. I read a few books and articles including “Achieving Equity and Excellence”, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) articles on the use of clip charts in classrooms, and “What Great Principals do Differently”. I look forward to sharing with you my increased awareness and my personal reflections from those experiences as I hope that you will feel open to share with me any of your personal and or professional discoveries from the summer.
Though as we have seen globally there has been a presence of COVID variants, we will continue to work together to make sure that we are diligent with keeping ourselves and our students safe. As we work together for our students, staff, and families, let’s take a moment to acknowledge that over the past 18 months, that globally, we as a larger school community have been through a lot; however, we are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment for our students.
As your proud Principal, I hope that you know that as we begin this year,
I continue to:
Believe in you
Hear you
Support you
Trust you
Be here for all of you
My commitment to all of you is to continue working meaningfully each day for our students, staff, and families for our beloved Lin Howe Community. Looking forward to a great year!
Casey Chabola

Stephanie Kirchhoff- 5th Grade Teacher
Hi Linwood Howe families! My name is Ms. Kirchhoff and I will be teaching 5th grade this year at Linwood Howe. I am so excited to return to Culver City Unified! I completed my student teaching in the district and I have always admired the family-feel that all the parents, students, teachers, and staff create together. A little about me: I grew up in Long Beach, CA and graduated with my Masters degree and teaching credential from Pepperdine University. I enjoy running, camping, and painting in my free time. I have a dog named Lucy and love spending time with my family. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught 4th, 2nd, and kindergarten and now I am so excited to make memories with you this year in 5th grade! Go Sea Dragons!
Sincerely,
Ms. Kirchhoff
Karen Thomas- 1st Grade Teacher
Hello!
I am so excited to be a part of the Lin Howe community, and all that it offers. Teaching is my second career, and I absolutely love it!
My background is in Project Management, where I had the opportunity to serve as a mentor. I recently graduated from Loyola Marymount’s School of Education, where I earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I worked as a Teacher’s Aide for LAUSD, and performed targeted reading intervention for the first grade class I assisted in. As a private tutor I personalized instruction for students, and helped facilitate curriculum during distance learning. I became a Substitute Teacher with LAUSD, and was a part of the hybrid program when schools reopened earlier this year. I led in person instruction for the students returning to campus, and continued on Zoom in afternoon for the remainder of the students at home.
I grew up in San Diego but LA has been my home. I love to travel, hike, garden, and spend time with family. I have a passion for teaching and look forward to bringing my enthusiasm and compassion for students into the classroom. Whether the learning environment takes place on campus or through online instruction, I am eager to support my students in their educational growth. Wishing you a fun year of learning!
Jaquenette Clinton- 2nd Grade Teacher
Hello, my name is Jaquenette Clinton and I am a new teacher at Linwood Howe.
Although I am new to the district, I am not new to teaching. I have twenty-four years of
teaching experience. Nineteen of those years have been in second grade, while five years
were spent in third grade. I have taught in both the Compton Unified and Los Angeles
Unified School Districts.
I am a proud graduate of a HBCU, Alabama A&M University, where I received a
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. I also attended Cal State Long Beach where I earned my California Teaching Credential and Master’s Degree in Education.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter, going to the movies, and traveling.
I am also a resident of Culver City. I am very excited to teach in the same city in which I reside. I look forward to being a part of the Linwood Howe family!

Brian Raber- Assistant Principal
Christina Chun- 2nd Grade Teacher
Hello! My name is Christina Chun and I'll be a 2nd grade teacher at Lin Howe. I've always loved being an educator and helping others learn ever since I was a Sophomore in high school. I got my bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from UCSD and my master's degree in digital teaching along with my teaching credential from Azusa Pacific University. For the past two years I worked as an interventionist at Downey Unified, helping students from K-5th with their reading and math skills to get to grade-level, and before that I worked as an assistant director to a tutoring company. When I have free time, I enjoy taking care of my indoor plants, cooking, knitting/crocheting, drawing, and playing games. I'm looking forward to meeting all of the families and all of my new students!
Robin Murran- 1st Grade Teacher
I am so excited to be teaching first grade at Linwood Howe this upcoming school year! While you will get to know me well throughout the year, I wanted to formally introduce myself. I grew up in La Cañada and attended UCSB for undergraduate and graduate school. After earning my teaching credential, I taught kindergarten and first grade in Glendale for four years. In the summer of 2020 I married my high school sweetheart, Michael and we moved to Culver City. I enjoy hiking, running, and spending time with my family and friends. I am both thrilled and honored to be joining the Linwood Howe family! I look forward to meeting everyone soon!
All the best,
Robin Murran
Brian Raber- Assistant Principal
I’m so excited to be joining your team as the new Assistant Principal! I have been an educator for the past 15 years working in multiple districts all across Northern and Southern California in grades K-8, as well as spending one year teaching abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico. My educational journey began as a Special Day Class Teacher working in a 1st-6th grade split class. As a new teacher, I quickly learned the importance of providing all students with an equitable education aimed at utilizing inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and high expectations. After a few years in Special Education, I decided to transition into the General Ed classroom as a 2nd Grade Teacher. During my time in this setting, I was fortunate to work closely with Columbia Teachers College consultants, implementing a Balanced Literacy Approach in Reading and Writing. My love for instruction and the art of the lesson was ignited through my work with these amazing trainers and soon after I returned to Special Education as a Resource Specialist with the goal of using this approach for all students. For the past 7 years, I have loved serving in the role of RSP Teacher because it provided so many opportunities to observe, collaborate, and learn from a variety of teacher styles, students, and families. With the transition into administration, I am eager to learn from the Linwood Howe Community and support the work that has already been established with the diverse community of learners and teachers that make up this school. In addition to my passion for working in education, I also enjoy learning to play the Ukulele, improving my Spanish speaking skills, and continuing my development as a High School Basketball Official. I hope to incorporate some of these passions while working with students and supporting teachers in the classroom and on the playground. I am so grateful to be part of your school and look forward to our journey together as we get back to in-person learning.
