From the Principal:
It does not seem like we are already almost three- fourths of the way through our school year.
A big thank you for your excellent Parent Teacher Conference Attendance! A total of 202 conferences were held with 91% attendance. Teachers are expected to reschedule missed conferences or hold a phone conference with parents who do not attend. Rescheduled and phone conferences increased this to 99% contact with parents.
Students in 3rd-5th grades will begin taking State Assessments in reading and math in the month of April. Fifth graders will also take an assessment in science. Parents can support their students to do their best on these important exams in several ways.
- Make sure students are well rested and have an adequate amount of sleep each night.
- Make sure students attend school daily. Avoid scheduling trips or appointments during the morning hours in the month of April.
- Tell your students you are proud of them and reassure them that you know they will use their best effort.
We look forward to the rest of our school year as we work towards our goal of providing a solid education which enables, educates, and empowers our students for a successful future.

Your Child’s Attendance Matters!
Consistent attendance is like a book: if you miss chapters 3, 8, and 12, how can you understand what’s going on in the story? When students miss school, they are missing valuable instruction- in multiple content areas- that simply cannot be replaced, and complete understanding is difficult to achieve. It’s not just absences- it’s tardies as well. When students are tardy it sets the tone for the day- they are always trying to catch up. Students are often embarrassed as well, entering class as everyone else is already settled. They miss out on valuable socializing and camaraderie that occurs while students are getting settled and prepared for the day. In addition, for the students who struggle with organization and keeping up, being tardy severely impacts how their day will proceed. Attendance matters and we need your help!

Ohana
Ohana is at the heart of all that we do here at LaCygne Elementary. Ohana means family and family means no one is left behind or forgotten. We consider ourselves one big family here at school. We strive each day to work together and enjoy our time together as we grow and learn. We look forward to continued activities throughout the year to support Ohana.
