Distance Learning/CVVPE Announcements and Updates
Message from Principal Ghereben, August 10, 2020
We've been working hard to prepare our virtual programs to begin the 2020-2021 school year!
What a journey this school year is going to be as we begin in full virtual and distance learning! At Proctor, teachers and staff foster and encourage mindsets where students believe in themselves, their classmates and their school. Beginning the year virtually adds a unique challenge to building community. Rest assured that teachers have participated in training focused on engaging our students and building relationships during distance learning. Our new PTA board is also very excited in partnering with you to make you feel supported and connected throughout the school year.
Below you will find important information you will need to know to start the year. I will be sending out bi-weekly newsletters during our time in Distance/Virtual Learning to keep you updated about our instructional programs.
Additional dates for upcoming events will also be posted on our school calendar. Please note, that we have schedule our "Virtual Back to School Night" on August 26th for K-2 students, and August 27th for 3rd-5th grade students from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
In Partnership,
Heather Ghereben
Proctor Principal
Curriculum/Materials Pick-up for Wednesday, August 12th has been Canceled!
During distance learning, no matter which learning model you chose, you are guaranteed a rigorous and substantially equivalent education. Check out CVUSD’s guidelines and expectations for teachers, principals, families, and students HERE to see how this will happen.
Please remember that during the first two weeks, all teachers will be focusing on getting to know their students, building community and digital citizenship, setting rules and expectations, building up their confidence and trust with their students, and training them on how to navigate the chromebooks, and virtual platforms. Tangible materials will not be needed during this instructional time.
A new date will be scheduled by your classroom teacher once we get confirmation on the delivery of our district curriculum. Do know, we may have multiple days scheduled for curriculum/materials pick-up as they begin to arrive, so please remain flexible and patient.
Kinder families (minus CVVPE students), and the K-2 SDC class will still need to come on Wednesday, August 12th (9:00 - 12:00, last names A-M), and (1:00 - 4:00, last names N-Z), to pick up their student materials and supplies which have been prepared for them by their teachers in order to participate in the first two weeks of school.
All CVVPE teachers will reach out to their classroom families to communicate what materials will be distributed for their specific program after the first week of school.
If you have any questions or concerns about this new update, please contact the school office. As always, I appreciate your patience!
Staffing and Teaching Assignments
Teacher Assignments
Because we are running two different programs for the 2020-21 school year (see below), site administrators have had to reconfigure staffing and classes multiple times. This has resulted in a couple of changes. First, Ms. Eckloff/Ms. Davis, Mrs. Chermack, and our new teacher Mr. Sibbitt will be teaching the CVVPE (100% virtual) students.
Student Placements will be given Wednesday, August 12, 2020!
Also, combination classes may have to be created to balance enrolment numbers in the main option. In combination classes, the teacher differentiates and supports both grade levels. Enrollment numbers seem to be changing daily, which has made it difficult to solidify space across the district in both programs. To give our office staff a bit more time, we will send you your teacher assignments on Wednesday, August 12th by 6:00 pm as we are trying to get placements set and confirmed for both the main Distance Learning option and for CVPPE . Our enrollment is very tight in both programs so there will be no room to make changes.
Chromebook and Technology Needs!
We issued hundreds Chromebooks to students on Friday! We encourage families to borrow one per student since the district will be uploading the apps that the teachers will be using. If you would like a Chromebook but weren’t able to pick one up on Friday, we will be hosting a make-up day this Wednesday, August 12th (9:00 - 12:00, last names A-M), and (1:00 - 4:00, last names N-Z).
We prefer students remain off campus if possible, and that a designated guardian/adult pick-up the Chromebook.
If you decide you DO NOT want a district issued Chromebook, please fill out this form: Declining District Issued Chromebook

The Distance Learning Hub Updated!
In addition to the ongoing communication you’ll receive from teachers, we also have The Distance Learning Hub that houses all tools necessary for distance learning. We will update it regularly throughout the year. Click HERE to go to Proctor’s Distance Learning Hub.
District staff have been working hard to develop trainings and videos that will help you understand the different virtual platforms teachers will be using. Please visit Virtual Resources for Families to access a variety of resources. Here is additional information about logging into Chromebooks, changing student’s accounts and other tidbits. There will be two upcoming Google Classroom training sessions. The first is Tuesday, August 11 at 4:00. Click here to register for 8/11 Google Classroom training. There will be another session covering the exact same content on Thursday, August 13 at 5:00. Click here to register for 8/13 Google Classroom training. The presentation will be facilitated by Peter Vallejo, our technology TOSA and will include accessing resources, joining a class, navigating the site, and submitting work.
School and Class Schedules!
The First Day of School
School begins on Thursday, August 13 at 8:00 am for all students!

The First Two Weeks of School
The schedule the first two weeks will look different than the normal distance learning schedule to allow for student assessment and relationship building, see the link below.
Distance Learning Schedules

Distance Learning Attendance Procedures
Teachers will be taking daily attendance for both synchronous (live teaching) and asynchronous (independent work time) activities. Every #ProctorUnitedAgainstHate shirt sold will go towards cultural educational and training material for Proctor Elementary School. During circumstances of division, unity binds our community. Please support this amazing effort by your PTA by purchasing shirts for your family and spreading the unified message of equality.
Does your passion go further? You may sponsor a shirt for a Proctor student who may not be in a position to purchase one for themselves. For every sponsorship, your PTA will provide a shirt to a Proctor student that has shown interest in having a shirt of their own.
