STACKS FOR STUDENTS
The Gladstone Rotary Club will hold its annual Stacks for Students on Saturday, March 14 at Gashland Presbyterian Church. Stacks for Students supports multiple scholarships for Northland students.
Staley students have been past beneficiaries of many of these scholarships totaling thousands of dollars. Last year’s winners each received $1000 scholarships. Due to the community support over the years, this year’s scholarships will be at least $1500.
If you would like to support our students in this manner and be a Stacks for Students business sponsor, please email Staley Interact Club Sponsor and GRC member, Barbara Madden, for details.
1ST ANNUAL GRIZZLY RUN 5K
This is a family friendly 5K taking place at the North Kansas City School District Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 18th. The primary goal is to provide an opportunity to promote fitness and fun for students, families and our community. Proceeds from the event will go to the Growlin’ Grizzly Booster Club. Our sole purpose is to provide a wonderful experience for our students and staff during their sixth grade year at Gateway.

As February nears its end, we’re gearing up for Read Across America Day! Read Across America Day is March 2, which was Dr. Seuss’ birthday. This year, instead of simply celebrating Dr. Seuss in March, Read Across America is a year-long endeavor to encourage students to read. In particular, the goal is to promote reading books with different voices. Reading diverse books enables us to build empathy and expand our worldviews. Plus, diverse books are good! Our library has excellent books with all sorts of protagonists—by all sorts of writers. We encourage everyone to pick a book this month that features a character whose life experiences are different than their own. Of course, everyone is still encouraged to also read a book by Dr. Seuss on March 2!
On March 4, several of our Falcon readers will be doing story time over at Bell Prairie. This is an excellent service opportunity through Epsilon Beta, the library club, and the Child Development classes. For more information, talk to Mrs. Ferguson.
