The Alien
An alien has just landed from another planet and has stopped you and wants to know all about the earth and its make up. You didn't know how to answer the alien, but you told the alien you would make a flyer so the alien could learn more.
Question ( What are the features of the Earth's crust, Mantle and Core? )
The features are to the crust is that the crust is a layer of solid rock that includes both dry land and the ocean floor. The features are to the mantle are that the mantle has different layers the layers include the lithosphere, the Asthenosphere, and the Mesosphere. The features are to the core is that the core is made mostly out of the medal iron and nickel. It consist of two parts-a liquid outer core and a solid inner core.
Question 2 ( How do Geologist learn about the earth's interior? )
Geologist have two main types of evidence to learn about the earth's interior direct evidence from rock samples and indirect evidence from seismic waves.
Question 3 ( What are some important vocabulary terms the alien should know? )
1. Seismic waves- are waves of energy that travels through the Earth's layers. Pressure- is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area over which that force is disturbed. Crust- is the layer of rock that forms Earth's outer skin. Basalt- is a dark-colored, fine-grained, igneous rock composed mainly of plagioclase and pyroxene minerals. Granite- is a rock that usually is a light color and has coarse grains. Mantle- a layer of hot rock. Lithosphere- is the solid outer section of earth. Asthenosphere- is the highly viscous. Outer core- is the layer of molten metal surrounding the inner core. Inner core- is a dense ball of solid metal.
