Weekly Updates
Dear Families,
We are happy to have an update on after-school programs for your students.
There will be no bussing for after-school programming so please pick up your child no later than 5 PM. The school office will be closed at 4 p.m. After 4 PM, you can call 505.906.2331. For this week, school students will meet in Mrs. Malcom's classroom (rm 104) and we will direct them to their program. School ID should have all these programs available.
Transportation Contact - For any transportation-related calls, please call Keith Hillock at (505) 458-4923 or email khillock@hozhoacademy.org. Messages are checked regularly throughout the day. Transportation finalizes its daily list at 2 PM every day. If you call after 2 PM, it will be too late to get your child off of the bus list. We are here in the office every day until the last child gets dropped off.
Picure Day - Picture Day is this week! Please see the flyer below to know which day. Click here to pre-register using the code PGHH24678

Literacy Corner by Elise Farrell
Let's talk literacy terminology! Below are some words you may hear when discussing literacy with your teacher or reading about it in the newsletter;
Literacy: The ability to read and write
Your child will be studying literacy at Hozho Academy!
Orthography: the spelling system of a language
Our literacy course includes studying the orthographic rules that make up the English language.
Phonograms: A combination of single letters to represent one sound.
{ai} is a multi-letter phonogram that stands for the sound /A/.
Syntax: The arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed languages in a sentence. Example: We ate fish for dinner. versus We fish ate for dinner.
Book of the Week
Classic Starts
Various Authors
Have you ever wanted your child to read more classics, or perhaps you yourself want to read more classical literature, but the classics seem daunting and challenging? Classic Starts is a series that consists of abridged versions of the stories we know and while remaining true to the original story!
