Happy New Year 5C
We're measuring Up to Reach our Goals!
Setting the Bar High in 2016!
Dear Students and Families of 5C,
We are kicking off the year setting goals for 2016. As a class we are going to be working on an important Habit - Putting things First! And working to create Smart (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely) goals and track them. As a class, we are taking this habit to heart and we are getting organized, working first, then playing.
- We are continuing to use our assignment pads, edmodo, google classroom and Whooo's Reading. Some of us have established new reading goals for 2016.
- We also are working on making meaningful goals weekly in our Friday folders. Be sure to share and discuss every week.
- Keep working on IXL.com to practice important 5th grade math skills!
I also want to thank you for your wonderful holiday gifts and cards. They were all so appreciated. I can't tell you how much they all meant. I wish you all a New Year filled with happy, healthy and wonderful memories!
Warm wishes to you all,
Dawn Campiglia

In addition, students are encouraged to continue to use our math apps on their IPads. Ixl.com will really help them reinforce their fraction problems at their level! Optional challenge problems will start coming home in January.

The Writing Workshop
Reading Workshop
In addition to reading our Journey's selections, we are busy wrapping up our Maniac Magee Novel. Upon it's completion we will embark on a true adventure as we read a historical fiction story, Number the Stars. With this novel we will take a journey back in time and learn about the impact of the Nazis on two families in Denmark during WWII. Of course, we are also still enjoying our read aloud, Wonder. So many great books to enhance our love of reading!
Join us on Whooo's Reading: https://www.learn2earn.org/login to check out what we are saying about our books. We are responding to reading and making reading fun!
Students are expected to read their independent books every night for 20 minutes. We now have a digital reading log that we must complete every night, please help add this to our homework routine.
