Andy Weir is the author of The Martian a few other books and short stories, like The Egg and his upcoming book Zhek. He was born on June 16, 1972, and currently works as an author and a programmer. The Martian was his first novel, and it has gotten him well known and a movie was later produced based on his book.

Genre: Science Fiction

Mark Watney is stuck and all alone on Mars after his crewmates abort their mission because of a dangerous sandstorm, leaving him behind because he was presumed dead when hit by debris and knocked away. He barely survived, but everyone else thinks he's dead. With his skills, wits, and little amounts of supplies, he must find a way to communicate with NASA and ultimately get out of Mars before he runs out of food and supplies.

This book can be found in bookstores, libraries, and as an ebook. The movie has been released on DVD and can also be bought on Youtube, iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play.

The Martian is a novel that was published in 2011 under his own name but the rights were later purchased by Crown Publishing and re-released in 2014.

I read the book over the summer of 2015 and watched the movie a month ago.

This novel is filled with lots of action and conflicts throughout as Mark Watney comes across a problem or conflict while on Mars, showing his motivation to get out and back to Earth. This book also has a multiple-point-of-view format, which builds suspense and keeps readers thinking, because the book keeps switching from Mark Watney's perspective to NASA's perspective. Along with that, everything Mark Watney does is scientifically correct.

I personally like this book because of all of the suspense created when Mark Watney faces a conflict. For me, if there is not a lot of suspense in a book, it gets boring and doesn't interest me. However, this book really kept me reading with all of the suspension evenly spaced apart throughout.

Overall, this is a very exciting book to read and packed with tons of action and suspense. This book is a great read for any type of reader and especially for avid science fiction lovers.
