News from the Nest
Week of 2/8-2/11
READING
Next week, students will take the Nonfiction Unit assessment. I will share the test results with you at your child's conference.
WRITING
Next week students will finish their opinion speech and use the opinion writing checklist to assess their own piece of writing. They will then have the opportunity to share their speech to small groups in our class.
MATH
This week we learned how to read and place fractions on a number line. Next week we will review ways to tell if a fraction is closer to zero, one half, or one whole on a number line. We will also work on reading fractions larger than 1 whole and placing them on a number line.
Students can continue practicing fractions on IXL and Prodigy.
Valentine's Day
If your child would like to bring in Valentine's Day cards to pass out, they may do so on Thursday, 2/11. They must bring in one for each child in our class. We have 25 students total. We will pass them out at the end of the day.
Genius Hour
Students presented their projects yesterday to second and third grade students and teachers. Our guests were impressed with the quality and depth of the projects. Genius Hour afforded us the opportunity to see students immerse themselves in the challenge of learning. As an educator, it is such a gratifying thing to see kids excited and passionate about learning.
