THE WICKED FRIAR
Story of Romeo and Juliet
Friar is Guilty
Friar Laurence is to blame for the death of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. If Friar wasn't so immature, selfish, and childish the young lovers would still be alive. Friar should've been the adult he is and told the parents when he heard of Romeo and Juliet's marriage plan. However, Friar Laurence was callow and went behind the parents back anyway. When Romeo asked Friar to marry them, he was quick to agree with "In one respect thy assistant be; for this alliance may so happy prove" (2.3.90-91). Friar hoped for the marriage to end the feud between the Capulets and Montagues, but instead his abhorrent plan lead to the death of the young couple. Friar Laurence was selfish by giving Juliet the potion rather than taking responsibility for his wrongful actions. Friar put Juliet and Romeo's life on the line with the whole plan. Juliet wasn't guaranteed an awakening and Romeo was warned "when he's found, that hour will be his last" (3.1.191). If Romeo would've been found in Verona at any time, he would've been killed immediately. Friar was a horrible person for creating such a treacherous plan; he knew the kids would be desperate enough to go along with it.
All Downhill From Here
Friar was giving the potion to Juliet. The plan was knew news to Juliet and Friar Laurence was explaining. Juliet, who was desperate enough for love, agreed.

However, with the help of Friar, Romeo and Juliet were married until difficulties arose. Romeo and Juliet were forced to make desperate choices that resulted in their death.

Explanation
This poem shows that Friar Laurence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar was cowardly and ran screaming "I dare no longer stay" while Juliet was groggy and desperate for Romeo (5.3.172). Afraid of taking responsibility for his own actions, Friar ran from reality when he could've saved Juliet's life. Friar also gave Juliet the potion when there were multiple risks, rather than owning up to his mistakes and stopping the whole plan.
