Wrapping Things Up
Swing Your Partner
The Byron Berline Band performs three shows for select schools at Whittier Middle School on Wednesday, May 1. The interactive musical experience featured traditional bluegrass and Western swing music. Berline, a three-time national fiddle champion, has worked with musicians such as The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Bob Dylan. An Oklahoma native, Berline returned to his home state in 1995 after living in Los Angeles for 26 years.
The band is made up of Richard Sharp on double bass, Thomas Trapp on guitar, Billy Perry on banjo and Byron Berline on fiddle. The group performed songs such as Elvis' "That's Alright Mama," "Oklahoma Hills," and "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." Berline shared stories such as the time Arnold Schwarzenegger hired Berline to teach him how to play fiddle for an upcoming movie, as well as Berline being recruited to play football for the University of Oklahoma while he attended school there.
This program was made possible in part by the Norman Arts Council Grant Program. Check out a clip of the performance below!
