ORCHARD HILL HAWK TALK
Be Safe - Be Respectful - Be Responsible - Be a Hawk!
APRIL 16, 2021
NO SCHOOL - MONDAY, APRIL 19TH - CONFERENCES
Hello Hawk Families,
What a great week! Having students here full days has been wonderful. It has been a joy to see students play with ”ALL” their classmates at recess, participate in PE with Mr. Bursk, have live Library with Mrs. Ridgeway, and eating lunch together (six feet apart).
We continue to follow all the safety protocols required by the state and county. We ask for your continued cooperation as we work our way through the final trimester and enjoy warmer weather. Below are a couple of reminders we are hoping families will continue to follow to make these last couple months run safe and smooth.
Curt D. Shenk, Principal
Orchard Hill Elementary
- Temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher when taken by mouth
- Sore throat
- New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing
- Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
- New loss of taste or smell
- Had close contact with a person with confirmed COVID 19 for at least 15 minutes.
Please make sure that your child comes to school with a proper fitting facemask. Mask should fit around the mouth and nose with minimal gaps and be sized to stay in place. We have had students arriving with adult sized mask that are too big and do not stay in place or have large gaps. If you are using reusable mask, please don’t forget to wash frequently.
DROP OFFS & PICKUPS
So far so good! We have had only we short back up onto Juanipero on Tuesday morning. The flow was smoother on Thursday & Friday mornings. What helped was having parents pull all the way forward rather than dropping off at the gate where Mrs. Dovci stands. This helped significantly and we ask that you continue pulling forward as far as you can before dropping off. Additionally, if you can have your child getting ready to get out while you are waiting in line, it would allow the line to move more efficiently.
Pick-up has been great. Thank you intermediate parents for waiting to enter campus until after 2:10. This has really helped us prevent any backing up onto Juanipero. Also, just wanted to thank and compliment everyone for their courtesy and cooperation at the merge zone.
Thought it might be a good idea to let you all know what is happening with lunch. Because we are still required to have students six feet apart while they are eating we have had to establish an outdoor eating area along with serving students in the cafeteria.
At this time, kindergarten, second grade, and 4th grade are eating in the cafeteria. First grade, third grade and fifth grade are all eating outside under the playground covered area. The covered area protects against rain, but it also creates a large shadow that keeps the temperature down (sometimes lower than we want). We are encouraging those classrooms who are eating outside to wear coats, sweaters, or sweatshirts to keep warm during eating time. Hopefully this provides clarity to any of you who are having students talking about being cold during lunch.
