November 2023
November is here and the weather is finally cooler. Many events are planned and we can't wait to share them with you!

Art
The kids are fast to work each day they come to art. The lower grades are working through the elements of art. 4th graders are working on a unit related to traditional Japanese art. Fifth grade is learning about the pop art movement and will be having some exciting art projects connected to their learning. Thank you to everyone who is sending their children in clothes, to get messy in, on their designated art day. I should be sending out things to save and collect for the art room sometime this month. If you use items already on the list and would like to send them, we would be grateful.

Primary Grades 1-2
The Months of September and October we have been learning all about the Details. Moving on into November, students will understand that the Details are what support the Big Idea and that is definitely something that they need to be aware of. We will also be expanding on ideas by creating a nest and elaborating with details. The products the students create will embrace who they are and how they can benefit from collaboration with each other.
Intermediate Grade 3-5
The Month of November will bring the understanding of how invasive species can cause system disruptions that alter our ecosystems and how these species disrupt the function and rules of a system. We will also begin to explore our Earth as a system and how human disruptions cause the Earth's systems (ex. ecological) not to function properly. We will learn the process of debate as a system and use it to argue multiple perspectives of a question.

STEM
We have been having lots of fun while we learn in STEM so far this year. We have worked a lot in groups collaboratively, completing challenges with a team in order to learn how to work together. We've focused on the 4 Cs of STEM- Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking. We will start to learn about the Design Process and how it helps us when we are working on STEM challenges. Mrs. Bonham has started to share pictures on ClassDojo so you can see the fun we have while we learn.
In November, all grade levels will start our DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP unit, where we learn about online safety and being a good internet citizen. Students will also work on a November challenge centered around turkeys or being thankful. In our last rotations for November, PreK-Kindergarten will work on a Civil Engineering challenge, 1st grade will be working on Environmental Engineering, 2nd grade will focus on Coding, and 3-5th grades will be working on their KEYBOARDING unit.
