Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
We are about to embark on our biggest fundraiser of the year! On October 6th, Oak Hills Students will participate in this year's Jog-a-Thon.
The Jog-A-Thon is our main fundraiser for the PTO’s general budget, funding a huge variety of our school’s programs and activities. Our goal this year is to raise $35,000 and have 100% student body participation! If each student raised a minimum of $60, we would easily surpass our goals! This year, we have a fun and exciting incentive to meet our goal. If we reach $35,000, Mrs. Baumgardner and I have agreed to ride tricycles throughout the school for an entire school day dressed in costume! There may even be a race at the assembly. So if you want to see Pikachu and a Unicorn riding around the school, bring in your pledges. Kids…let’s reach this goal!
We will once again be using Pledgestar in addition to the donation envelopes as a way to reach out to friends and family both near and far. Collecting donations has never been easier, especially from friends and family that live out of town. You need to set up your Pledgestar account every year, but it really is quick and painless. Just visit www.pledgestar.com/oakhills to get started.
It takes a large number of volunteers to make this amazing event and fundraiser happen. We need adults to help tally laps for every class and each grade level as well as helpers for set-up and clean-up.
All volunteers and visitors need to complete the district’s volunteer background check before being eligible to work with students and volunteer in the school and classroom. It only takes a few minutes, but needs to be done before you plan to volunteer at school! Please visit https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/depts/CCI/volunteer-engage as soon as possible to get started. It takes time to process background checks and you don't want to wait until the last minute or you might not clear in time.
Jog-A-Thon pledge packets and information were sent home with your students early in September. Please review the information provided and feel free to contact the Jog-A-Thon team at jogathon@oakhillspto.org if you have any questions.
Help us make this the most successful Jog-A-Thon yet!
Don't forget that conferences are on October 11th and 12th. We are able to accommodate one slot per family. Remember to make arrangements so that you can leave your child at home while you attend the conference. To schedule with your teacher, please click on the following link:

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love seeing the pumpkins and all of the beautiful fall colors. Breaking out my boots is something I really look forward to. Yet, as the weather turns cooler, it is important to make sure that our kids are getting enough sleep and washing hands so that we can all stay healthy throughout the fall and winter. Thanks for all you do to send your little ones to us ready to learn. It is phenomenal to partner with such a wonderful community.
Warm regards,
Jennifer DeMartino

Under opportunities is the category Jog a Thon with sign ups for each grade and set up and clean up. Only background approved volunteers can volunteer. You must have your name badge, not a visitor badge. If you need a new badge, please contact volunteers@oakhillspto.org by Wednesday October 4th.
Per district policy no volunteers can volunteer if they have younger siblings with them. You may come to watch, but will be asked to not be near the tents.
Questions? Please contact jogathon@oakhillspto.org
Fundraising Update:
Our fundraising total as of today, September 29, is $15, 326! Way to go Oak Hills! We are almost halfway there.
Don't forget, PledgeStar is a quick and easy way to collect pledges online. Students using PledgeStar bring in a much higher percentage than using the traditional envelope method. Plus, it's super easy!
Get registered at www.pledgestar.com/oakhills and get emails out!
Attendance
Additionally, when students come to school late, they often feel embarrassed. It is hard to enter a classroom after everyone has settled in. The students who are already there cannot help but notice the movement as a late student enters and if this is your child, they might feel like everyone is watching them. Our teachers do many of their community building activities in the morning, so students who come late have less of a chance to bond with their teacher and classmates. These are just a few of the reasons why arriving on time can start your student out on the right foot every day.
At Oak Hills, we are committed to promoting on-time attendance. Please contact us if you are noticing attendance issues in your household. We can troubleshoot and help you find solutions to any attendance problem. Thanks for making this investment in your child's long-term academic success!
Bus Safety
7:30-8:00 am
2:00-2:30 pm
It is extremely hard for our bus drivers to get the buses through the exit when they have to try to avoid hitting cars that are parked there.
Also, please exercise caution when dropping off and picking up in the drop off lane. We have teachers and staff members in the parking lot helping kids in and out of cars. We want everyone to be safe so please drive slowly and be aware of staff or children who may be in the line of cars exiting or entering vehicles and directing traffic.
Learning Options Information for 2017-2018
The Beaverton School District is nationally recognized for high student achievement and innovative programs. Current Beaverton School District students will be able to apply online using their student ID, once the application portal opens. Resident students not currently attending a Beaverton school will need to complete a paper application.
Thanks for the Gift of Time
You honestly cannot believe how much valuable work is being done during Wednesday collaboration time in our building. Teachers have been able to participate in events that directly benefit your students in so many ways. Here are just a few of the ways teachers have been taking advantage of this time to collaborate with their colleagues:
- Participating in professional development led by the district in topics ranging from Coding in the Classroom to Supporting Language Development
- Sharing strategies that have worked in their classrooms
- Working toward consistency among classes in grade levels
- Meeting with specialists to talk with each teacher who works with a student
Superintendent Grotting came to visit our school last week and he was so impressed to hear about all of the great work our teachers are doing during Wednesday collaboration. Your children are the beneficiaries of the work that is taking place. We offer a sincere thank you for this gift of time!
