A Note from the Principal
Dear Woodland Families,
Last weekend’s holiday breakfast was a wonderful community event that kicked off a busy Saturday. We had an opportunity to share a meal with friends and family, play games, make crafts and write letters to Santa. To top it off, Santa traveled all the way to Woodland during this busy time of year to hear what a great job our learners are doing!
I want to thank the PTO for organizing and hosting this event. A special thanks to our Holiday Breakfast and Volunteer Chairs Lauren Kobylarz and Nicole Wolf for all of their hard work. Thank you to Mrs. Motherwell for taking cute Santa photos, and Santa for making time in his busy schedule. They also had a huge group of volunteers, including staff, who put in countless hours to make this day special for everyone.
Our food drive continues through next Wednesday. So far we have collected 2,331 pounds of food toward our 2500 pound goal! I am so proud of our students and the kindness they are displaying to others in our community. Our student leadership team has done a great job promoting the drive and helping younger students sort the items.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Schneider
Gleaners Canned Food Drive
Our Gleaners canned food drive is winding down! Students can still bring in canned goods and non-perishable food through next Wednesday, December 12th. Woodland's annual food drive provides boxes of food for our Blessings in a Backpack families and for Gleaners Food Bank.
Today, our students brought in over 757 pounds of food! Eleven (11) classes are now in the 100 pound club. Two (2) classes are in the 200 pound club. Our new grand total as of today is 2,331 pounds!! We hope to exceed our goal of 2,500 pounds of food to help those in need over the holidays.

Positivity Project
This week our focus is Kindness. Kindness is grounded in the belief of a common humanity in which others are worthy of care, attention, affection, and compassion. Aristotle defined kindness as, ”helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped.”
Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. Kind people are selfless. That is why a true act of kindness is distinct from helping another person in order to simply gain something for yourself. An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it’s the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.
Next week's focus is Humility.

Gentle Reminders
- Please remember that the student drop-off lane in front of the school is not in effect until 8:20am. You must remain with your child prior to 8:20am, as there is no one in the office to supervise children at that time. School starts at 8:32am. If your child is tardy, please make sure to walk them into the Main Office to sign him/her in.
- Just a reminder that the new price for bagels is $1.25. Please make sure to send bagel money in a ziploc bag or sealed envelope labeled with your child's name, teacher and flavor choice.
- In order to stop the spread of contagious illness, please keep your child home if they have had fever, vomiting, or diarrhea within the past 24 hours. Please remember to inform the office if your child has a contagious illness. We will then inform the rest of the class of the illness, but will keep the identity of the sick student confidential.
Please remember that students go outside for recess every day, unless it is raining or the temperature/wind chill is below 10 degrees. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoors every day, (heavy coat, hat, scarf, gloves, snow pants, boots, etc.). When it starts to snow, your child must wear boots & snow pants in order to leave the blacktop at recess. It is also a good idea to label every item with your child's name so that clothing can be returned to the proper person.
- If your student will be absent or tardy, please phone the attendance line at 248-537-6910. This answering machine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- It is our goal at dismissal time to ensure the safety of ALL students. In order to minimize distractions in the Main Office and in your child's classroom, PLEASE discuss dismissal with your student(s) in the morning AND submit any changes to the routine in writing. Students who have to leave early should be picked up prior to 3:15pm whenever possible. Dismissal time is very busy and critically important in getting everyone to where they need to go!
- Please remember that birthday invitations are not to be passed out in class unless the entire classroom is invited. Please utilize the student directory for this purpose. We do not want any feelings to be hurt by those uninvited. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.
