HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 1 Week 1 - 2 February
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 2018! Seeing the smiling faces of families getting in to the swing of school this week has been fabulous! We are delighted to welcome our new families who have come from far and wide, and we are very happy that you have joined our community .
We welcome our new staff: Lydia Della Santa is taking over our Uniform Shop, Belinda Paulet is returning to take over the role of Finance Officer, Erin Horne is teaching our Year Five Catherine children this term while Pat Winton is on medical leave, Tess Jacobs is teaching our Year One Dominic children, Kate O'Neill is teaching Year 6 Catherine and Hayley Baylis is joining the Kindy Catherine gang. Uniquely, all of you have history at Holy Rosary, and we are truly delighted that you are part of our team for 2018. We wish you much success and satisfaction as we go from strength to strength.
Farewell Karina! - Karina Tester who has been in charge of our OSHC, finishes today and is heading home to Geraldton. Karina has run a remarkable programme, and will be much missed by children and parents, and by all of us at Holy Rosary who have been involved.
Karina took over our OSHC at short notice last year, and soon earned the respect of us all. You have been fabulous to work with Karina. We wish you every happiness and every success for the future!
A whole lot of work has been undertaken across our campus, including plumbing, tree pruning, electrical repairs, heavy duty cleaning, external painting, grassing the oval and the Dominican Playground (and they look fantastic!), and of course, the assembling and setting up of new furniture to the middle and upper primary classrooms. I am pleased to report that the outcome of all this work sees our school in pretty good shape! The classrooms look wonderful. Do check them out. I thank our teachers and support staff for investing a lot of time in getting them to look great and be truly functional.
The calendar is as complete as we can get it. No doubt there may be the odd change, but we will publish changes as soon as we are aware of them. In terms of precedence, I draw your attention to the Information Sessions being held next week, on Tuesday, by our class teachers. Year Six sessions look different because there is a focus on camp in week three, and that will be communicated to the parents and guardians of those children.
Last year the Information Sessions were held in week four and feedback was clear on interest in having them scheduled earlier, which is why we have scheduled them for week two. The sessions commence at 6pm sharp. A bell will sound at 6.25, and they will be repeated at 6.30pm. If you have more than two children and therefore two sessions just isn’t enough (!) you are welcome to make an appointment through the office – just email us on admin@hrs.wa.edu.au - to catch up with your child’s teacher. Please try to get to the Information Sessions as they provide an important opportunity to get a picture of 2018 in your child’s grade. Teachers invest a lot of time in preparation for this meeting and they welcome your attendance.
Information regarding general matters concerning a change to the times of the school day, parking, punctuality, making appointments and the like can be found later in this newsletter.
It is really, really great to be back. Here’s to a good, strong, enjoyable year.

ABSENTEE EMAIL
When emailing absences, please include the child's NAME and ROLL GROUP in the email.
CHANGE TO SCHOOL HOURS FOR 2018.
The reason for the change is to ensure compliance with Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia policy, and legislation. The change does not affect our Kindy classes.
From Tuesday March 6th, the school day will finish at 3:05 and not 3:15. I understand families need time to adjust and as such the change will be implemented from Tuesday March 6th, after the long weekend.
REMINDERS
SIGNING IN AT THE OFFICE:
It is important that everyone signs in at the Office whenever they enter the school between 8:45am and 3:00pm even if only dropping off lunch or forgotten items.
PUNCTUALITY:
Please endeavour to get your children to school on time in the mornings. Classroom doors open at 8:30am and the bell for the start of lessons goes at 8:45am. Children must be signed in on the iPad in the Office when arriving late (after 8:45am) or leaving early.
PARKING:
Disabled Bays - Please do not park in the Disabled Bays at the front of the School if you do not have a Disability Parking Permit. It makes it very difficult for families with wheelchairs if there are no bays available to use. Please park in the bays.
The Principal's parking bay in the Staff carpark has been auctioned off to a parent. Please do not park in this bay.
Drive Through - Cars are parking in the drop off zone in front of the OSHC making it impossible for parents to drop their children off safely as well as blocking in those cars parked correctly in the allotted car spaces. Please park in the bays!
Also we ask that you endeavour not park on resident's verges or driveways around the school when you drop off or pick up your children and please observe the No Standing signs. There is parking available at Hale Hockey Carpark.
Please click HERE for the Instructions and Map for Drive Through drop off and pick up.
