Is Reading Worth It?

By: Katelyn Meyer

What is so important about reading?

Reading is used world wide. People think about this question everyday, wondering why someone would teach us how to read words off of a piece of paper. Our every day life is revolved around reading. If you can't read you can't fill out paper work or do anything.

Why should society read books?

Is read really that important to the society?

Living a day without being able to read would suck. Think about it for a second!.... What if you were walking into a Job, School, Doctors office, Etc. and you couldn't understand what things were saying. That would be really frustrating. In the United States we are required to go to school as a kid. Other places don't have school like us and don't have the chance to learn how to read, or learn things like we do in a normal day of school.

Reading is a skill we use every second of the day. If you don't know how to read it can effect a lot of things that you are trying to do. Here is a list of things that it would effect!

  • Filling out paper work
  • Signs on the road
  • filling out applications
  • reading maps
  • Day-to-Day Activities

Reading can also have a positive side to it. Here is another list of positive benefits from knowing how to read!

  • Gaining new knowledge
  • Getting a good job
  • be able to know what things are
  • what is being said in a book

My thoughts to knowing how to read!

To me reading is very important. When I was younger I had a reading disability. I worked through it and got better when I read constantly. Working from easier book to harder ones. I think that reading should never be banned. I know a lot of my class mates and friends think that reading is stupid, but it can be at times. Especially if you don't like the book you are reading. There are people out there who don't even get to go to school and don't know how to read. Reading is one of the most important skills you need to have, to live a normal day at Marshall High School.
