What we will do this week
We will meet at 10:00. I am available to stay until 12:30 if groups need/want to work on their posters during that time. It depends on what the group has already accomplished. I expect most groups will be finished by 12:00. End time is something you can discuss with your child and his/her teammates Saturday morning at the start of the meeting.
PLEASE REVIEW THE INFORMATION BELOW WITH YOUR CHILD.
Subtopics on the poster are:
- Our Piece of Trash - explain the steps from the time the trash leaves the home until its final destination.
- Our Search for Information how we went about finding out information about out topic
- Our Model - describe what your model shows
- Our Model: What Moves and Why - this is where you list all of your simple machines or motorized parts and how "work" (movement) is accomplished (ex: Car: the wheels turn on an axle and the car can move forward or backward
- How We Did It - how did your project come together with you working as a team (what skills were important to your team in order to be successful)
Each team needs to write about these topics and share the information on the poster.
I will bring plain paper, lined paper, glue, tape, markers, and coloured construction paper to layer behind the white paper if desired. I have the poster boards as well. Each team also has photos in their envelope from last week. These photos plus the writing in the categories above make up the poster.
At 11:45, we will take a group photo and I will present the teams with their certificates of completion. Parents are welcome to be present for this informal ceremony.

World Expo 2016 - Amazing News
In January (before I'd met the 4 new teams who joined FLL Jr), I learned that the team was one of 40 from around the world who was invited to share their project at the event. This is an amazing opportunity for these children. From April 28-30, they will be in St. Louis, Missouri, the only team from Ontario (and I think only one of two from Canada) who is participating.
To help manage the expense of this trip, we've partnered with Tracy Zimmerman, photographer, to offer you a great opportunity to have your child photographed for the spring/Easter at an excellent price. All of the funds raised go directly toward helping this team get to the Expo, representing all of their fellow bright and curious FLL Jr team mates in London ON.
Please have a look at the flyer posted above and contact Tracy if you have any questions.
Studio session (indoors) on Saturday, March 12
Gibbons Park session on Sunday March 13 (unless there is snow/rain - then it will be indoors as well).
Thank You!
Thanks also to my husband Joe - he has been my behind-the-scenes volunteer each week, giving me time to prepare and organize. I'm the volunteer you've see every week but he's been equally important to making this winter session a reality.
The goal of ABC is to create a community of families who are raising bright and gifted children together and it warmed my heart as I saw parents and children together, talking, learning, and discovering. I hope the experience has been positive for you.
Here's to being a supportive community for our children!
