NEW! Black History Month
Throughout the month of February Mesa Verde will share the accomplishments of African Americans who have helped shape our nation. Black history is about joy, love, and celebrating the genius of those contributions and how our country has benefited. Students will receive frequent emails and posts on our site’s Eagle Canvas page. The library has been expanding our list of books written by African American authors and Mrs. Furtado is eager to share! Our message is one of celebration.

Last Chance to Purchase a Yearbook
Not sure if you already bought a yearbook this year? You can check by going to yearbookforever.com. In the top, right corner, click on "Find an Order". Enter any email address you might have used for the purchase. If you cannot find a purchase connected to any of your email addresses, you have not purchased a book this year. You can also call 1.877.723.6344 to confirm.
PUSD February break is shortened this year
A reminder to PUSD families that the 2021 February break has been shortened from five days off to just two days off due to COVID-related adjustments to the 2020-21 school year calendar.
There is no school on Monday, February 15 and Friday, February 19 due to the observance of Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays.
However, school will be in session Tuesday through Thursday, February 16 through February 18, so students are expected to attend class on those three days.
Spring Break remains the same, Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 16.
The last day of school was changed to Friday, June 18, 2021. You can view the official District calendar here.
Course Selection for 2021-22 School Year
Mesa Verde has done course selection in mid to late March and we anticipate the same this year. We will be sharing a How To video for course selection as we get closer. Nothing to do at this time.
We are planning for our incoming sixth grade parent information night for mid-March. It will be an evening virtual event.
Intradistrict Transfer Requests
For students who live in the PUSD boundaries and would like to attend another PUSD school, PUSD will accept Intradistrict Transfer requests for the 2021-2022 school year from February 1, 2021, at 8 a.m. through March 31, 2021, at 5 p.m. During that time period, there will be a link on the PUSD webpage to submit a transfer request.
For students who live in another school district and would like to attend a PUSD school, PUSD will accept Interdistrict Attendance Permit requests for the 2021-2022 school year starting February 1, 2021. Please note that the document must first be signed by your district of residence before it is submitted to PUSD.
Decisions on transfers are made by the Student Attendance and Discipline Office, not Mesa Verde.
NEW! Attention 8th Graders: Preparation for High School
Soon our 8th Grade Families will begin to think about the transition to High School. If you will be attending a high school in PUSD, there will be a newsletter coming out with information on all of the virtual family nights and student presentations. Information will include times and virtual links. All student presentations will be held on March 19th. Students will hear about their future high school and receive information on how to start selecting their courses.
For families that are placing a transfer request, your student would need to attend the high school presentation of the high school that they are slated to attend, not the one they are choosing to transfer to. When they select their courses within synergy, they will need the high school codes for the school they are slated to attend (home location). Don’t worry, all virtual presentations will be recorded and accessible on the high school websites.

Mt Carmel High School: March 2nd

Rancho Bernardo High School: March 16th
Del Norte High School: March 23rd

Parenting and Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth
Parenting a teen can be very challenging in itself, but understanding a LGBTQ+ life can become overwhelming. This workshop will give parents/caregivers insight into the LGBTQ+ youth. We will be working to understand the unique needs of each youth, finding common ground between youth and parents/caregivers, and exploring communication skills to best carry our message as parents or caregivers of love and hope for their future. This session is sponsored by the Caring Connections Counseling Center with Guest Speaker Kathie Moehlig. Enroll online TODAY at Poway Adult School.
