- Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 17 days per year, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
- At JCPS, it is our goal for schools to have an attendance rate above 90%. Right now, South is at 89.7%. We are SO close to our goal. Please make sure your child comes to school each day that they are not sick. Every hour of every day counts.
- We appreciate your help in sending the message to students that school is important!

Parents as Teachers has a FREE screening for that!Developmental screenings offer parents a quick and effective way to look at how their child is learning and growing in the areas of health, vision, hearing, communication, physical development, problem-solving, and social-emotional development. Annual screening is available for children living within the JCPS district boundaries who are between 4 months and 5 years of age (who are not yet in kindergarten).
