CELEBRATE STUDENT WORK IN THE CLASSROOM!
Student work made visible is important for so many reasons. A few biggies to remember:
1. It celebrates: A visual of student work through the lens of a student - is validating and communicates their work is important.
2. It is supportive and encouraging: It helps build community and students feel part of the Pirate learning family.
3. It informs: Displays are a great way to communicate what the class is learning to any visitor!
Tips to consider when thinking about how to use your 4 walls for student work:
1. If you don't have a student work up, make a plan to add some. It can take on all kinds of shades - to celebrate achievement, learning, growth, drafts to show the importance of the learning process, skills worth modeling, etc.
2. Rotate student work samples to keep it current to what they're learning.
3. Label student work in respect to standards or learning targets so that anyone visiting your room can make an easy connection between the display and student learning. Who doesn't want a free conversation starter?
4. Say it loud! It's pretty awesome to share about learning and our kids. Be proud!
5. Control clutter; ya don't want to discount the displays and bulletin boards that should get all the attention because visuals are all over the place or unorganized.
6. Share a visual display idea with a colleague - we always learn more when we work with each other.
Hey Pirates! NICE job! Keep it going. Arrrgh!
I spy: student work on display
