Findley Elementary School

Message from Dr. Marsh
As we enter a new season and it's getting darker and colder outside we want to remind families that there is no supervision on the playground or anywhere around the school building until 8:15 AM, with the exception of Thursdays for running club. We are seeing students waiting outside prior to this and worry about their safety. Help us keep our Findley Dragons safe and make sure they are not arriving before 8:15 AM. Thank you for your help with this!
Have you ever wondered what we do with our time on Wednesday afternoons when you get your children back earlier? We really value this time and the opportunity to meet as a staff or as a grade level. We collaborate around a variety of topics designed to improve and enhance our teaching practice to better serve your kids. Just this last Wednesday (see picture below) teachers learned about strategies and resources they can use that support social emotional learning for kids and adults alike! It was time well spent.
Thank you for sharing your kids with us. Hope you enjoy your long weekend!

Findley’s Tenth Annual Food Drive kicks-off
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH!
HELP SUPPORT THE OREGON FOOD BANK!
Findley is holding their annual Food Drive November 13th through the 16th. Please bring in a non-perishable food item(s) to help support the Oregon Food Bank. Dollar Day will be Friday, November 16th. For every DOLLAR we collect, the OREGON FOOD BANK is able to provide 5 pounds of food to a needy family. If all 629 Findley students donate $1 on Dollar Day, that is equivalent to donating a whooping 3,145 pounds of food!
Thank you in advance for all your support!!

Dragon Dash 2018 Wrap Up
Parents! Thank you for your support, encouragement and donations from family and friends to make this year's Dragon Dash a success! We raised over $108,000 to support educational programs at Findley such as Art Literacy and Passport Club including classroom supplies, books, technology tools, class parties, assemblies and author visits. We couldn't have achieved this overwhelming success without your support and the support of the teachers, staff and PTO parent volunteers. We welcome any feedback you'd like to share to make Dragon Dash 2019 even better (or if you'd like to volunteer for next year)! Please send your input to dragondashpm@gmail.com.
Findley Flyers
Did you know that over 75% of the school participates in Findley Flyers? We run every week and are in need of more volunteers for Tuesday recess times!
As a collective group the Findley Flyers have run 2,534 miles so far this year!! It takes a lot of volunteers to make this happen and keep it fun & safe for all. If your child is one of the 536 kids that has run with us, please consider coming out to help! Sadly, if we can’t get enough volunteers for each grade, that grade may have to be cancelled for the week.
Tuesday Volunteer Times:
K - 1st 10:15 am - 11:10 am
2nd - 3rd 11:10 am - 12:05 pm
4th - 5th 12:00 pm - 12:55 pm

GIRLS ON THE RUN VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED!
Findley will have a Girls on the Run (GOTR) team this spring and we are in need of 6 volunteer coaches to make the season successful.
GOTR is a nonprofit organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. It’s a 10-week curriculum-based program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that combines training for a 5k running event with powerful lessons on confidence, teamwork, relationships, and leadership.
Coaches need to commit to the 10-week season and meeting twice a week for 90 minutes from March-May. You don’t need to be a runner or a competitive athlete! A successful coach only needs to have a desire to positively impact girls’ lives by helping them increase their self-confidence, develop healthy relationships and feel good about themselves. You’ll serve as a role model for girls by showing up prepared and on time, listening attentively, and by demonstrating a positive attitude.
