Arming Teachers, or Not
#armmewith is a hashtag that shows teachers telling what they need more than guns for them to be able to keep students and kids safe. Many people, including the United States President, think that arming teachers will prevent this problem. I, however, believe that arming teachers will just keep teachers and students on edge knowing that the teacher has a firearm sitting in their desk drawer. One reason that this isn't a good idea is that it won't be very effective, for this to work, the teacher would have to be waiting at the entrance in which the shooter enters the school or the classroom that the shooter is in. This would also be hard to enforce because to own and carry a firearm, you have to have a permit, who would fund the permits for teachers to carry a firearm, certainly not the teachers since it doesn't seem like a popular opinion among them, and public schools would rather spend it on things like books and athletics. There are also certain risks to arming teachers with firearms, teachers could accidentally injure a student in a time of crisis, especially in mass chaos and/or if they aren't trained, and, say a student in their class got angry, they could probably figure out a way to access the teacher's gun. Arming teachers is not an effective solution to the school and gun violence crisis in America.
