Duveneck Connections

Home of the Dragons - Last Edition, June 4, 2020

Dear Duveneck Families,

The last day of the school year is upon us today. Who knew when we started that our world would turn upside down in March 2020. COVID 19, school closure, distance learning, social distancing, shelter in place, face masks, and zoom meetings are just a few examples of the new everyday terminology and experiences we have had. We are literally living through a historic event in real time, one that will be told in textbooks for years to come. I want to thank our students, staff and community for your perseverance, resilience, keeping a flexible mindset, compassion and grace during the last three months of school. It was not easy but we did it!

We have a few staff changes for the 20/21 school year. Mrs. Heather Driscoll, 5th grade teacher, will be moving to Juana Briones Elementary School next year. Mrs. Driscoll was a wonderful addition to our 5th grade team and we wish her all the best on her new assignment. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Tracy Thorson, EL Specialist, who worked with our TK and Kindergarten programs this year. Mrs. Thorson is moving over to El Carmelo Elementary School and we wish her all the best in her new assignment. Although our next teacher is not leaving our school, she is changing grade levels. Please welcome Mrs. Lisa Schmidt to the first grade team next year.

What a first year it has been. I am so honored and humbled to work and be of service to such an amazing community. Although we still don't know what the future holds, I know that together, we can do anything!

Have a safe, healthy, and joyous summer.

With Gratitude,

Leslie Crane

Summer Social Emotional Learning Class K-8

PAUSD is offering a summer Social Emotional Learning Class K-8. (PDF about the class is attached below.) It is open for all K-8 students, and course access information will be sent out mid-June directly to families. Students that are signed up for the intervention programs will be able to access this is as well.

There is also going to be a daily read aloud lesson that the librarians are organizing. This class could be a great option for your children this summer.
