The Bel Air PTA Carnival is Coming!!

Carnival Donation Contest
Dear Bel Air Families,
There will be a carnival at Bel Air on Saturday, May 20th. We need help getting items for the cakewalk and the soda ring toss. Your students have the opportunity to donate items for these two events and earn points for their classrooms.
Beginning Monday May 1st and ending Friday, May 12th, students may bring in 20oz sodas (found in the checkout aisle of most stores) and/or boxes of snack cakes. If you prefer to donate cash or make a check donation (made out to Bel Air PTA), you may put donations in an envelope with your child’s teacher’s name written on the outside and the PTA will use the funds to purchase additional items.
Each soda collected will give the class 1 point, while each cake item will secure 2 points. If you donate with cash or a check, you will receive 1 point for each $5 donated.
Our Bel Air Change Agents, in conjunction with the Specialist Team, will collect items and post classroom progress daily. The classroom with the highest number of points from the first level and the classroom with the highest number of points from the second level will receive a class popcorn party and some carnival tickets that can be redeemed on May 20th.
Good Luck and thanks so much for your support!
Ms. Modjeski

Safety & Security: 5 things to know
Bel Air Elementary School takes safety and security seriously.
As a reminder:
Exterior doors are locked and should not be opened during the school day.
Students and visitors should only enter and exit through the controlled access main entrance - Door #1.
Prior to entry, visitors are asked to show a photo ID which is checked by a visitor management system.
Video camera systems are positioned at multiple entry points and are monitored during the school day.
Students and staff are asked to be proactive in reporting to administration all suspicious activities or any person who doesn't have a badge or seems out of place.
If you have questions or concerns about safety and security at Bel Air please contact principal Dawn Wiegand at 651-621-6303

5 facts to know about . . .
Transportation and Mounds View Public Schools
1. We contract transportation services with six different bus companies.
2. Bus drivers are not Mounds View Public Schools employees.
3. Like all bus companies, our transportation providers are experiencing a shortage of
drivers. We are working collaboratively with them to address the need for additional
drivers.
4. Late buses may be an occasional consequence of the driver shortage. We're sorry for
this, and we ask for patience as we work with the bus companies to find drivers.
5. At times, when routes need to be covered by different substitute drivers, times and route
consistency may vary.
To learn more about bus driving opportunities, please call 651-621-8900 or visit www.american-
trans.com.
Know the Facts: Mental Health
Over 80 percent of young people ages 10–18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink. Send a clear and strong message that you disapprove of underage drinking and use or misuse of other drugs. Talk. They hear you. Read April’s mental health blog post about the topic here.
Non-Academic Personal Property:
Students should not bring personal items such as toys, card collections, footballs, soccer balls or similar sports equipment to school. These items may be misplaced or stolen and can be a disruption to learning. If a teacher wishes to have students bring such items to school for a special event, parents will be notified. We appreciate your support.

Riding the Bus and Food/Drink
While riding the bus, students are expected to keep all food and drink in their backpacks. This expectation prevents choking incidents, exposure to life-threatening allergens, and promotes bus sanitation.
Building Security Procedures
A visitor screening system helps track visitors and volunteers at each school, providing a safe and monitored environment for students and staff. When parents come to pickup their child(ren), or visitors check in, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system.
