Solo & Ensemble Celebrations

Students across all orchestra levels throughout the district were invited to participate in the annual solo and ensemble contest. They practiced, recorded, and submitted a solo or small ensemble performance to be adjudicated by experienced orchestra directors, performers, or lesson teachers.

The performance is rated on a scale of 1-5.

1=Superior

2=Excellent

3-5= Needs improvement

In addition, each judge is allowed to choose an 'outstanding soloist' from their pool of performers.

At the high school level, students who receive a 1 are invited to participate in State level Solo and Ensemble.

Lawler Orchestra had the highest student participation out of the entire district, and received the most Superior ratings.

Lawler also has 5 Outstanding soloists!

Individual Celebrations

All levels of orchestra at Lawler participated in an individual skill challenge. For our beginners, this was called orchestra karate. For our 7th graders in Philharmonia and Sinfonia orchestras, it was karate redemption (a chance to finish the karate levels that we never got to finish last year), and our Chamber group, Camerata group, and Sinfonia 8th graders participated in Dress-4-Success.

Students were expected to submit weekly videos and Mr. Sluder and I spent time each week watching the videos and giving every student individual feedback on their technique goals. As students mastered their goals, they would move through different levels of the challenge. Every student moved at their own pace through the levels and some students took the initiative to pass off multiple levels each week.

We are so proud of the growth that students have achieved. Certificates were presented this week to every student that mastered at least the first level of the challenge.

Did you miss certificate pick-up?

If you missed the chance to pick up your Karate or Dress-4-Success certificates this past week, today will be the last day they are available for pickup. I will have them for you in the fall if you are unable to stop by today.

I have placed a file box just outside the orchestra doors (same location as pickup earlier this week). It will be there until 1PM on May 22nd.

Certificates are alphabetical by FIRST NAME. Please be respectful of the order and do not get them out of alphabetical order while finding your certificate.
