Definition

fear of kissing or being kissed

symptoms

Mental Symptoms

  • obsessive thoughts

  • difficulty thinking about anything other than the fear

  • feeling unreality or of being detached from yourself

  • fear of losing control or going crazy

  • fear of fainting


Physical Symptoms

  • Dizziness, shaking, palpitations.

  • Shortness of breath or smothering sensation

  • Palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate

  • Chest pain or discomfort

  • Trembling or shaking

  • Feeling of choking

  • Sweating

  • Nausea or stomach distress

  • Feeling unsteady, dizzy, lightheaded, or faint

  • Numbness or tingling sensations

  • Hot or cold flashes

Causes

It is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events (i.e. traumatic events) and internal predispositions (i.e. heredity or genetics). It is believed that heredity, genetics, and brain chemistry combine with life-experiences to play a major role in the development of phobias.

Treatments

  • exposure and response prevention;

  • progressive desensitization;

  • medication.
