Leader in Me!!
All students will be given a warning (2 strikes) and then they will clip down to yellow. If behaviors continue their clips will go to orange and red. Clips will no longer restart when entering the next classroom (For example, if your child clips down to yellow in 1st block, that is where they will begin 2nd block).
The consequences will start with 5 minutes structured recess, a note in the agenda, email, phone call and then parent/teacher conference. If the behaviors are severe an office referral will be given.
All students will also have a chance to clip up to blue and purple. Every time they receive a brag tag they will clip up from where ever they happen to be.
Remember that students can clip up and down according to behaviors that happen in the classroom, hallways, special area, recess and lunch. Please review the school rules and your expectations with your child.
Literacy/Reading
Please shake the hand of the author you have living at your house! Students are in the process of writing some amazing historical fiction stories. Our research is complete and we have been getting into our main character's shoes in order to write and make our stories come alive.
Some time next week, please be looking for your child's story to come home to be edited by you. Please don't change their story, you will have an editing checklist to follow. We can't wait for you to read these stories. They are amazing!
Beginning March 13th students will be given a reading passage for homework. The passage will be given out on Monday and due back by Friday. The passages will be graded!!
Math
We are in our decimal unit after taking a pre-test. You can help your child by using money to talk about decimals. Students will be looking a visual diagrams of decimals, comparing/ordering decimals, decimals on a number line and adding decimals.
Look online at Ms. Davis's Weebly under the math tab for videos, worksheets, and helpful hints.
Our decimal test will be around March 10th.
Science
We are investigating the Rock Cycle!! Students are learning about Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks...each coming from a different area of the Earth. Rocks are ever changing and once you pick them up you have changed their life forever!!
We will be testing the rocks for luster, cleavage and hardness! A trip around the rock cycle will be coming up so students can see what happens to a rock in different situations.
