Oedipus
The biological son of Laius & Jocasta, the adopted son of Polybus & Merope. He later marries Jocasta. Oedipus is the king of Thebes. Oedipus killed his father , married his mother and solved the riddle of the Sphinx.
Cadmus
Grandfather of Laius. He founded Thebes, slew a dragon and was instructed to sow the dragons teeth to form a city.
Jocasta
The mother of Oedipus. the wife of Laius, and later the wife of Oedipus, she is the queen of Thebes.
Sophocles
The author of the story.
Thebes
A city founded my Cadmus, and the setting of the play.
Laius
The great grandson of Cadmus, husband of Jocasta, and father of Oedipus
Cornith
is a city where King Polybus and Queen Merope rule.
King Polybus
The king of Cornith, husband of Queen Merope and adoptive father of Oedipus.
Queen Merope
The Queen of Cornith, wife of King Polybus and the adoptive mother of Oedipus.
Sphinx
A monster with a head of a women and a body of a lion who kills all who fail to answer her riddle.
