Excellence in ALL we do!

Thank You

Thank you for another wonderful and productive school year. I can’t thank everyone enough for your endless hours of volunteering, chaperoning, reading, organizing, donating and doing whatever was necessary to support students—both at home and at school.

Special thanks to our PTO who went above and beyond the call of duty to provide whatever was necessary to add to our students’ already rich school experience.

That experience could not occur without the endless energy, skills and devotion of the LVES staff. Thanks and well done to an incredible group of professionals that I am honored and proud to work with each day!

A final word to LVES students: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am so honored to be your principal; you make me proud to be a Viking. I am grateful for your joy and amazing talents. Best wishes to our third graders who will move up to LVIS next year—please come back and visit. Everyone have a safe and happy summer break.

Until next school year, here’s wishing you love, laughter and learning!

FINAL REPORT CARDS WENT HOME TODAY IN FOLDERS!

OCEAN WEEK 2018 RECAP

Bubbles and Blubber

Bubbles is a life-size replica of a Humpback Whale, and has been a part of Ocean Week since it started approximately 20 years ago! Students are able to go inside and learn about whales and their survival in the ocean. Third grade students set up stations for students to rotate through to learn more about the different parts of a whale and how blubber is important to their survival. This is definitely a highlight of Ocean Week!

Touch Tanks

Another highlight of Ocean Week is Touch Tanks. Students rotate through different exhibits to see different items and animals found in our Texas Gulf Coast area. Animals available during Touch Tanks vary from year to year, but this year students were able to see crawfish, Sargassum fish, hermit crabs, sea anemone, and sea urchins. Students can also see the effects of pollution on marine life. This year we had a special guest...Quesodillo the Armadillo! Even though Quesodillo is not a marine animal, he is a special animal to Texas.

Thank you to Andrea Roach for all her help each year with Touch Tank collections!

Casting

When you live on the lake and within driving distance to an ocean, casting is an important skill to learn! Texas Parks and Wildlife and Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge were on hand to help our students learn the ins and outs of casting. Students got to put their casting skills to use and practice catching fish on the back playground.

Thank you to the volunteers from the organizations above, along with Mr. Gerace and Mr. Herring, for being here to help students learn how to cast.

Biologist Presentation and Closing Ceremony

We finished out Ocean Week with a presentation from Biologist Jamie Shank with the San Antonio Aquarium. This was Ms. Shank's second year to present to LVES during Ocean Week, and she talked about how important ocean conservation is to our oceans and its habitats.

Closing Ceremony is always a great way to end the week's events because it's entirely done by the students! All grade levels performed a song or Reader's Theatre and a video of students talking about what they learned was shown.

Summer School starts June 4th

If your child is attending the two week summer school session, please make sure you mark the dates on the calendar. Summer school is June 4th-14th (Monday-Thursday only) from 8:30-11:30 am. Snacks will not be provided, so if you send a snack with your child please do not send anything made with peanuts/nuts or made in a place that contains peanuts/nuts. We do have students with severe allergies and want to make sure they are safe.

Drop-off and pick up for summer school is in the main hallway. Teachers will not be on duty until 8:30 am, so parents will need to stay with their child until the teacher arrives. There will be signs for each grade level in the main hallway for students to line up.

LVES is a Texas Honor Roll School!

LVES has been named to the 2017-2018 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll for its high achievement and student success. The program, sponsored by the Institute for Productivity in Education (IPE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. We are one of 729 public schools in Texas to be recognized.
Thank you to the dedicated teachers and students for the accomplishment, and for continuing to make LVES a great place to learn!
