Keystone Kids Digital Book Report Challenge - Registration Starts October 8, 2018

This year's theme is Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead! The challenge is for students in grades 4 through 6 to integrate their reading, writing and 21st Century literacy skills into an interactive and engaging project. Possible tools to assist with creating the digital book report include: Movie Maker, iMovie, Garage Band, Photo Story, WeVideo, and G Suite. Registration runs from October 8 to November 26. Videos can be uploaded from December 1 to January 4, and on January 14 voting begins. Voting ends on February 15, and during the week of February 25, the winners will be announced. ACM Code Jam - November 2, 2018

Computer Programming Contest for all students in grades 9-12 from districts represented by Colonial and Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Units. Teams of 4 will be given a certain number of problems to solve and the team that correctly completes the most problems in the shortest amount of time will win the competition. The competition will be held at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, 4210 Independence Drive, Schnecksville, PA 18078-4210 on November 2, 2018 with a snow date of November 13, 2018.

Governor's STEM Competition - February 12, 2019

Pennsylvania is home to some of the most technologically diverse and scientifically sophisticated companies in the world. With these avenues for STEM employment existing in our communities, it is important that our students have an understanding of the concepts and skills that will be invaluable in moving citizens into these high value occupations. Each year an annual themed competition focused on exposing students to these jobs, skills and concepts is created for students in grades 9-12. This competition will be held at CIU 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on February 12, 2019 with a snow date of February 21, 2019.

STEM Design Challenge - March 1, 2019

Students in grades 4-8 are challenged to build an object with a certain theme and with specified materials. Teams design and build the required object using a blueprint. At the challenge they will present a narrative report, submit blueprints and cost sheets and build their object within a certain time limit. This event will be held at NCC Monroe Campus, 2411 PA 715, Tannersville, PA 18372 on March 1, 2019 with a snow date of March 8, 2019.

PA Media & Design Competition - March 12, 2019

The PA Media & Design Competition (formerly known as The PA State Computer Fair) is an annual event that highlights high school and middle school students’ application skills and computer knowledge. Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process. The winner of each category at the IU regional event will go on to the state competition. The regional event will be held at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA on March 12, 2019 with a snow date of March 14, 2019.

There have been important changes in the competition. A new category has been added which is 3D Printing and the logo and graphic design categories have been combined.

Due to the importance of understanding all of the changes to this year's competition, we will offer two virtual information sessions to discuss the changes as well as answer any other questions computer fair advisors may have about participating in the CIU 20 Regional Middle/High Computer Fair on March 12, 2019. The dates of the virtual information session are as follows:

Spring Challenge Reading Competition / Reading Olympics - April 11, 2019

The annual Spring Challenge Reading Competition will be held on April 11, 2019 at Easton Area High School, 2601 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA 18045. Middle and High School students from all around the Lehigh Valley and Pocono regions compete on teams to answer questions about books they have read from a list of 45 titles. Teams are awarded points for correct answers, the scores are cumulative across the three rounds, and the winning teams receive copies of one of the books from the list autographed by the author. This event has been keeping young people engaged in reading in our area for over 20 years!

Regional Academic Competition - April 5, 2019

The Academic Competition provides an opportunity for students from our region's high schools to compete in a "college-bowl" format where students answer challenging questions from a variety of categories including literature, math, science, American and world history, geography, and contemporary events. . This competition will be held at CIU 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on April 5, 2019, with a snow date of April 8, 2019.

Regional 24 Challenge® Math Tournament - April 10 & 11, 2019

CIU 20 is sponsoring a two-day Regional 24 Challenge® Math Tournament for 4-8th grade students! This tournament will be held at CIU 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on April 10, 2019 for Grades 4-5 and on April 11, 2019 for Grades 6-8.
