ACM Code Jam - October 25, 2019
Computer Programming Contest for all students in grades 9-12 from districts represented by Colonial and Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Units. Teams of 4 will be given a certain number of problems to solve and the team that correctly completes the most problems in the shortest amount of time will win the competition. The competition will be held at Colonial Intermediate Unit 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on October 25, 2019 with a snow date of November 1, 2019. www.ciu20.org/codejam
Governor's STEM Competition - February 20, 2020
Pennsylvania is home to some of the most technologically diverse and scientifically sophisticated companies in the world. With these avenues for STEM employment existing in our communities, it is important that our students have an understanding of the concepts and skills that will be invaluable in moving citizens into these high value occupations. Each year an annual themed competition focused on exposing students to these jobs, skills and concepts is created for students in grades 9-12. STEM Design Challenge - March 6, 2020
Students in grades 4-8 are challenged to build an object with a certain theme and with specified materials. Teams design and build the required object using a blueprint. At the challenge they will present a narrative report, submit blueprints and cost sheets and build their object within a certain time limit. This event will be held at NCC Monroe Campus, 2411 PA 715, Tannersville, PA 18372 on March 6, 2020 with a snow date March 27, 2020. www.ciu20.org/stemdesignchallenge
PA Media & Design Competition - March 10, 2020
The PA Media & Design Competition (formerly known as The PA State Computer Fair) is an annual event that highlights high school and middle school students’ application skills and computer knowledge. Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process. The winner of each category at the IU regional event will go on to the state competition. The regional event will be held at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA on March 10, 2020 with a snow date of March 12, 2020.
Regional Academic Competition - April 3, 2020
The Academic Competition provides an opportunity for students from our region's high schools to compete in a "college-bowl" format where students answer challenging questions from a variety of categories including literature, math, science, American and world history, geography, and contemporary events. . This competition will be held at CIU 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on April 3, 2020, with a snow date of April 6, 2020. www.ciu20.org/academiccompetition
Spring Challenge Reading Competition / Reading Olympics - April 16, 2020
The annual Spring Challenge Reading Competition will be held on April 16, 2020 at the Easton Area High School, 2601 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA 18045. Middle and High School students from all around the Lehigh Valley and Pocono regions compete on teams to answer questions about books they have read from a list of 45 titles. Teams are awarded points for correct answers, the scores are cumulative across the three rounds, and the winning teams receive copies of one of the books from the list autographed by the author. This event has been keeping young people engaged in reading in our area for over 20 years. Regional 24 Challenge® Math Tournament - May 14-15, 2020
CIU 20 is sponsoring a two-day Regional 24 Challenge® Math Tournament for 4-8th grade students! This tournament will be held at CIU 20, 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA 18045 on May 14, 2020 for Grades 4-5 and on May 15, 2020 for Grades 6-8. www.ciu20.org/math24
