We are Learning
Math
This week in math we discussed the attributes and groups of shapes. We know that the straight lines on closed shapes are called sides. We also discussed two groups of shapes: triangles and quadrilaterals. We know that a polygon with 3 sides is a triangle, while a polygon with 4 sides is a quadrilateral. Next week students will be introduced to the family of shapes within the family of quadrilateral.
Writing
This week students were engaged in finishing their Young Author Books. This week’s Young Author Books Exhibit and YA Pancake Dinner was such a success. Thank you to all of our parents for supporting us with our Young Author Books at home and attending the Pancake Dinner. Next week we will start our poetry writing unit.
Reading
This week in reading we learned about parts of speech. This week's parts-of-speech focus was on the noun. We learned that nouns are not only people, places, things, and/or animals, but that they can be proper (specific names of a person, place, thing, or animal) or common (general/generic name of a person, place, thing, or animal), as well as singular (meaning 1) or plural (meaning more than 1). Next week students will focus on how to modify nouns with adjectives.
