Composition Workshop with Maria Schneider

Grammy Award winner Maria Schneider will workshop and rehearse compositions for those in attendance. Maria Schneider is widely considered one of the greatest living composers and bandleaders in the jazz world. She is one of only a few artists to have received Grammy nominations and awards in multiple genre categories, and she is a trailblazer for women in the jazz world, as one of the only female composers and large-ensemble bandleaders to have achieved international renown. Maria has been awarded Grammys for composition, best recording, and best ensemble (in both jazz and classical categories).

Zazen, Zen Buddhist Meditation Practice

"Zazen means ‘sitting meditation’. It is being oneself, with nothing extra, in harmony with the way things are. It is the simple practice of looking directly at life as it is." All are welcome: experienced or first time. Any one who'd like to practice silent meditation is welcome. Learn more about Zazen in the Soto Zen tradition. Please wear modest loose fitting clothing. We have zafus (cushions). Come a little early if you'd like instructions.
International Club Meeting

Islamic Club Meeting

Islamic Club is a group open to all students who have an interest in the religion of Islam regardless of whether the student is Muslim or not. The group aims to enrich the understanding of the religion and the diversity of its followers, addressing the negative and positive views of religion particularly in the case of Islam.
Islamic Club also provides services to Muslim students and works with the Muslim community in Galesburg. Islamic Club is a group in which all facets of Islam can be explored and discussed with openness and honesty, free from any fear, bigotry, and rudeness.

Are you interested in serving the Knox Community through a paid Leadership Role? Join current student leaders and staff members to learn all about the new combined student leader selection process. This information session will provide information on eight different leadership opportunities; Center for Intercultural Life Peer Educator, Dare to Care Peer Educator, International Student Ambassador, Living Learning Community Mentor, Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, SPARK Mentor, TRIO Team Leader.
Through a common application students will have the opportunity to apply to one or more paid position. Applications will be due early February. Music and the Creative Arts in the Digital Economy

Join Grammy-award winning composer and conductor Maria Schneider for a talk and discussion about the role of the artist in the current professional, legal, and economic landscape.
As an advocate, Schneider has spoken before Congress promoting copyright protection and legislative fairness. She was also one of the original participating artists in Artistshare, the first Internet crowd-funding platform for musicians. This talk will not be specific to jazz; rather, it will address issues central to the professional and creative lives of artists across genre, style, and medium.

Come by for lunch to learn what might be the answer to these questions, and help us come up with some new ones! In a friendly non-judgy environment we will share lunch (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate) in the cafe on Wednesday, get to know each other, and learn about each other!

Knox College's Jerome Mirza Jazz Residency welcomes five-time Grammy award-winning composer Maria Schneider to the Orpheum Theatre for an incredible night of jazz. Schneider will guest-conduct her award-winning original compositions with the Knox College Jazz Ensemble, Illinois State University's Jazz Ensemble I, and Western Illinois University's Jazz Studio Orchestra featuring soloist Chip McNeill and Todd Kelly.
The Knox Cherry Street Combo will open the concert with original student compositions, which Schneider will workshop as part of her week-long residency.
