This Is Not My Hat
By: Jon Klassen
Done By: Alexandra Harrison
This Is Not My Hat is about a little fish who stole a hat from a big fish. The little fish thinks that, since the big fish was sleeping, the big fish will not know that it was the little fish took it. The crab saw the little fish with the hat but the little fish thinks that the crab will not tell. But......SPOILER ALERT........... the crab does tell the big fish. The little fish is going to where the tall grass grows. At the end, I think, the big fish eats the little fish and gets his hat back.
Year It Won and author's purpose

Why This Is Not My Hat is the 2013 caldecott winner
I think that This Is Not My Hat won the caldecott because Klassen's drawings and paintings were colorful and realistic. Also, Klassen used a description of the plot, theme, charicters, and expression in the pictures and they were vibrant.
This Is Not My Hat compared to Cinderella
I compared This Is Not My Hat with Cinderella. They are both caldecott winners, true, but one is about a girl who was a slave to her evil stepmother and her stepsisters. The other is about a fish who steals a hat ( see summary). The artwork is also very different. Cinderella looks more abstract and beautiful, while This Is Not My Hat is more little kid friendly. I think that if you were looking for a book for younger kids, This Is Not My Hat is the one.
