Year 5 Weekly Update
Friday 27th February 2015
Week 24
This week the children have learnt their big business categories and developed surveys to conduct market research into potential products to sell at the market day.
Next week the children will be using the information to develop their product ideas and to create their shopping lists. Each group is beginning to organise themselves into roles and progressing further into the inquiry.
Book Week
Next week is BHS bookweek with this years focus around illustrators. The children have been asked to bring in their own book from home to read in assembly on Monday. Throughout the week there will be a variety of exciting book themed activities and we will end the week on Friday with our traditional book character dress up parade.
International Food Fair - raffle tickets - a gentle reminder that we don't have long left to sell tickets for a chance to win some fantastic prizes!!

UOI - Big Business
The year 5's have taken the initiative to collect recycled plastic bags for customers to purchase on market day to carry their amazing array of goods. They have decided to bring in any spare plastic shopping bags from home. Please can you help them to search around your homes to add to our collection.
Next week the groups will be planning their shopping trip to purchase ingredients/resources/products for their stalls. We will be organising and arranging trip(s) for the following week so we thank you in advance for sending in reply slips ASAP. This will include a trip to Sha Tin Junior's Year 5 market day on March 10th.

Maths
This week the students investigated specific types of question formats (e.g. multiple choice, checkboxes, scales etc) and we asked to choose the most appropriate format for each of their survey questions. Once the surveys are completed and sent out, the children will spend time analyzing results to help shape their product choices for big business.
Homework this week
This week's homework:
The children have been given a persuasive writing framework to help them plan and structure a persuasive letter. They have also been asked to create a list of adjectives to help describe a product in order to create catchy slogans. This will support the English genre and the current UOI.
