Principal's Message
Thanks to Mr. Denard and the 40 plus members of the PHS Students Council for staying the course and designing our first outdoor homecoming dance. They have had many, many meetings and vetted ideas from all members of our community. Our student leaders should be lauded for their committment and dedication to this effort.
We are a couple of weeks away from our first marking period. Students are reminded to finish the quarter, "Patriot Strong." Reach out to your teachers and ensure you have stretched your cognitive abilities to the learn as much as possible. Your effort will be rewarded with a lifetime of knowledge you will need to be successful.
This time of the Fall also culminates in the celebration of our PHS extra-curricular ambassadors; band, dance and sports teams. Our seniors have been honored for their gallant representation during our last few home games. Thank you to senior parents for being their child's first educators. It is my hope that our seniors use all they have learned to know that it takes a team to get the job done.
Have an Awesome Holloween Week,
J. Amaral

Homecoming Dance
The Student Council will be hosting our Homecoming Dance on Friday, October 29 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm, with a rain date of Saturday, October 30. (If both days are rained out, the Student Council will meet to discuss an alternate plan and date.) This is a Portsmouth High School student event only; students not enrolled at Portsmouth High School will not be allowed to attend. The dance will be open-air on the football field at the high school. Due to the nature of the turf, flat shoes or sneakers must be worn. Students will not be permitted to wear heels or other types of footwear that could puncture the turf and/or cause other damage. Appropriate dress will be required as dance is a semi-formal. Refreshments will be sold at the dance.
When arriving, students will enter the field via the Ray Sullivan Patriot Way sign, which is accessed from the main parking lot of the school. The entrance on Memorial Drive (the one-way) will be blocked off. A breath analysis test will be administered to attendees as they enter the dance. Students must arrive at the dance no later than 6:45pm and will not be able to leave any earlier than 8:30pm. Once a student leaves the dance, reentry will not be permitted.
Tickets can be purchased starting on Monday, October 25, during all lunches, and closing on Thursday, October 28. Tickets now cost $10.00 and are non-transferable. The Student Council will also be raising funds for the Covenant House, an organization that provides shelter, food, and other care to homeless and runaway youth. Any student will be able to make a donation, if they so choose, to the Covenant House at the time of purchasing a ticket.
The Student Council has been working with the PHS Administration and PHSO to make this event happen. We thank both of them for their support in helping make this dance a reality for the PHS student body.
