Week 1: Happy New Year!
It is just a New School Year, but it is happy nonetheless. Your children came through the school doors this morning wearing beaming smiles, new school clothes, and nice haircuts. Children proudly showed off new lunchboxes and backpacks. Sharpened pencils, colorful markers, bright highlighters, fresh pads of paper, and a new planner display the joyful promise of new beginnings and a fresh start. That is what each new school year brings to the students, teachers, and parents –a new opportunity to learn, to grow, and to do better.
New starts and new beginnings are not limited to the first day of school. Each day is an opportunity to start fresh. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” God’s mercies are unlimited just as He is. Each day is another opportunity to begin again and leave the past behind.
This year I invite you to start fresh with us. Your fresh start could be a new hobby or picking up a neglected one. It may be to read, to write, to draw, or to play. You may decide to go back to church or start a Bible study. Whatever you choose, I ask that each day you also take a moment to pray for your children, their teachers, and for their school. It may just be a quick prayer as you drop them off, “Lord, be with them all today,” or something longer. Prayer is mighty. Please know that we are praying for you as well. Happy New School Year!
