Peter the Great was 10 years old when he took the throne. He only took control of the government in 1689. He was very educated as he spent much time in the "German quarter." In 1697, Peter sent out to learn about western ways. He took off on a policy of westernization.
Accomplishments
He tried to strengthen the military,expand Russian borders, and centralize royal power. He also brought Russian institutions under his control. Peter tried to push through social and economic reforms. He imported much Western technology and improved education.
