Fourth Grade PEAK
Mrs. Turner's PEAK Class October News
Curricular Areas:
4th grade students are in the process of selecting a world problem to research. Students will take notes over the next 6 weeks to building background knowledge on the topic and then work to raise awareness about this world/ community problem.
During theme study we are also learning a framework for problem solving. Each week, students are given a problem and they go through the problem solving steps:
1. Define the problem
2. Fact Find (5 W's)
3. Brainstorm solutions
4. Evaluate solutions (pros and cons)
5. Select best solution
We go through this framework each week - it is awesome to see our problem solving skills improve!
Math:
4th graders have been solving "real-life" math problems. We are looking at gas mileage problems. Please send with your child vehicle information: type of car, miles traveled per year, miles per gallon.
Topic Study:
4th graders will continue to work on their topic study research. Most students will wrap up note taking this month. They will then create a short video to share their learning. We are also examining vocabulary that makes us an expert in our topic.
