"How Was School Today?"
Sometimes, however, if we rephrase the question, we will get a different type of response. Your child may even open up with all kinds of excited details and even want to show you what they have learned. The following two articles contain some wonderful questions to help get these engaged responses. We hope they help your dinner time conversation about school.
Girls Who Code
Blanton is starting a Girls Who Code club this year. This is an opportunity for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls to learn about computer science and develop a community of confident, caring girls. You can read more about this organization on their About Us page here, which includes the “Why It Matters” information when you scroll down the page. Each meeting will build upon the content and skills from the week before, so it will be important to attend each week if possible.
There will be a sign-up link in next week's (September 14th) Knights in the Know newsletter. That will give parents and girls in 3rd-5th grades time to learn more about the club. Please see the flier below for more information and contact Mrs. Krutka with any questions!
International DOT Day
The arts are an essential part of a complete education, no matter if it happens in the home, school, or community. Students of all ages—from kindergarten to college to creative aging programs—benefit from artistic learning, innovative thinking, and creativity. Celebrating National Arts in Education Week is a way to recognize this impact and share the message with friends, family, and communities. What will you do this week to recognize and celebrate the importance of the arts in your child’s life?”
Dot Day
On September 14th we will celebrate International Dot Day inspired by the book “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds. Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration. In art students will discuss their different strengths and how they will
leave their “Dot” or their positive mark on the world. Dot Day will be celebrated all week
throughout the school but especially on September 15th so make sure you have your students wear polka dots to show some Dot Day pride.
Grandparents' Breakfast
Students and their grandparents will have breakfast in the cafeteria beginning at 7:00 a.m. When they are finished they are able to go look at books in the Book Fair. Grandparents are welcome to walk their grandchildren to class on this day beginning at 7:30 to say their goodbyes.
To help us in planning, please RSVP for the Breakfast. Thank you!
Fall Book Fair
For your convenience, our Book Fair will be open extended hours on Tuesday, September 11th. Grandparents will be able to shop with their children beginning at 7:00 a.m. or after the Grandparent Breakfast in the cafeteria that day. PTA is hosting a Knights Night with In-n-Out Hamburgers from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the back parking lot. Our Book Fair will also be open for parents and students to attend from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Thank you for supporting the Book Fair and helping to foster a love of reading for your children. Books are truly magical and allow us to visit places and times in which we have not experienced.
In-N-Out Knights Night
The In-N-Out Burger truck will be parked in the back near the cafeteria and be open from 5:00-6:00 p.m. We will have the cafeteria open to provide a place for your to sit while you eat. The library will be open for the Book Fair as well. The back door (in the back parking lot) is the only way to enter on this evening.
Thank you for supporting Blanton Knights Night!
Fuel Up to Play 60
Our school is participating in Fuel up to Play 60 this year! We have our first school challenge coming up the week of 9/24-9/28. We are going to be hanging posters in the hall and talking with the students on the morning announcements about how important breakfast is to start our day out right. Our challenge is to see how many students we can get to eat breakfast in our cafeteria during that week. It has to be a school bought breakfast to count in our contest. All the DISD schools that are participating will be trying to win a visit from a Dallas Cowboy! Right now we only have 8 schools that are participating so our chances at winning are high!
What do we need from you? Well, there is a form to fill out saying if your child will be eating with us that week (we need to know each day they plan on eating for ordering purposes). On the form, there is also a sign up genius if you want to volunteer to help supervise the students. We don’t normally have that many breakfast eaters so the extra help is appreciated!
Child nutrition will track our breakfast eaters that week and then we will find out if we are the ones chosen to receive a visit! Even if we don’t win, we will still get some equipment for PE just for participating!
Please fill out the form if you wish for your child to participate. Breakfast is served at 7:15 each morning. We need a form for each student who will be eating!
Thank you!
