Thankful November
November is here! It is the time of the year where everyone challenges themselves to be intentional and grateful every day. I have challenged our staff to be reflective as we enter the holiday season-- Every moment in our day is an opportunity to be thankful and to be grateful. I am incredibly grateful to be serving as the PROUD principal of Bryan County Middle School. As we enter the holiday season and close out Red Ribbon Week, I want to strongly encourage each one of you to LOVE on your children. Middle School is at time of a little more freedom and opportunity to make decisions. We want to make sure our middle-level learners are making positive, proactive decisions. Often times, destructive decisions and behaviors begin in middle school. It is up to us, as the grown-ups, to stay alert and make sure we are always supporting our children!
Please make sure to check out the grade level Peeks, listed on our website. Also, please check us out on Facebook!
Our next Parent University is coming in December where we will again open up our classrooms to our community and highlight our new program, Project Lead the Way!

#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5) WIN!
WIN time Works!
How you can support WIN time at home:
We are proud to offer WIN time daily to our scholars to grow a culture of readers!
1. Encourage reading at home!
2. Help your child find a great book
3. Go to the library
4. Get on your iBooks and download samples of some classics! There is a new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book out! Grab the sample on your device!
5. Do a read aloud together!

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)
Thank you to our student council for an ELITE Red Ribbon Week!
We are now in the middle of our Yearly Canned Food Drive. Please bring any canned goods or no-perishable items to the front office! We are collecting canned goods all this week. All donations will be used locally!
The state will be releasing CCRPI (College and Career Readiness Performance Index) scores soon. This year, CCRPI was measured using a different formula. That means you can not compare the CCRPI scores of the past (2013-2017) to this year's score. The way the state calculates the score is based on these areas:
1. Content Mastery: What "level" each scholar scores on GMAS test (1-Beginning Level, 2-Developing Learner, 3-Proficient Learner, 4-Distinguished Learner)
2. How much growth (progress) did your child make compared to statewide peers.
3. Is your child hitting the marker in the Lexile Reading Bands.
6th 997 and up
7th 1047 and up
8th 1097 and up
4. How did the school perform in sub-groups: did our sub-groups meet their goals to earn a green flag. Examples of subgroups are: White/Black/Hispanic/Multi-Racial/ED/SWD/
We are proud of our scholars and our schoolhouse and we know that a "letter grade" or a "score" doesn't tell the whole story-- but this year's data tells us we are doing the right work to grow our scholars.
MAP testing will begin after the Thanksgiving Break. This will be a great assessment to compare scholars from the start of the year (FALL MAP) to now (WINTER MAP).
Bryan County Schools is taking part in an AdvancED review this school year. The AdvancED process helps our district with accreditation and also gives us valuable data and information that we can use to reflect and plan as we grow to be the very best school district we can be! This week, I am launching the parent survey for our families to take. This is a very brief survey and it is anonymous. If you could take the time to complete it, our school would appreciate it! The link to our survey is here:

Look for our next Parent University to be held in December!
In January we are going to kick off a new event at BCMS: Our Saturday Spectacular!
We will be offering Math Enrichment for scholars on Saturday from 9-12 as well as a Parent University from 9-10 to go dissect the Extended Writing piece on GMAS. We are looking forward to offering Saturday opportunities to grow our scholars and to support our families! Stay tuned for more details! The first session will be Saturday, January 26th and transportation WILL be available! Scholars who are interested and qualify will be contacted in January.
The peeks of the week are listed under our "weekly updates" tab on our website. We hope you are finding this information helpful in keeping up with the day to day of your child and what they are doing at school.
Other #BeBCMS Nuggets:
E+R=O
I hope you have noticed the posters and visual reminders around our school. E+R=O is a simple skill. The E stands for the event (what happened), the R stands for how your responded (your action) and the O stands for the Outcome (what did you get). We are helping our scholars to think about E+R=O in every situation. Our goal is to help our scholars begin to see and understand that the better their R is, the better their O will be!
PLEASE sign up to use Powerschool. PowerSchool is our grading and information communication system. Sign up is EASY! Stop by the front office and we will get you signed up and get you a login. You can use it on your phone and from an app! Never wonder again about missing work, upcoming work, or grades! It's all at your fingertips in Powerschool!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! Please know that if you have a concern or if you hear something that doesn't feel right, contact me! eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630 (Cell).
