HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 7 - 24 November
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This year Mr Winton worked with our Student Leaders to create a school prayer, as we didn’t have one which meant that there was an opportunity to be had. I think you would agree that this is a beautiful prayer that says a lot about us and our place. To Pat, and the Leaders Mackenzie Boekhoorn, Ben Borgas, Ben Butson, Cameron Ford, Ella Hodgson, Sofia McDonnell, Cooper Stevens & Megan Wong, we are in your debt. Thank you.
Thank you to everyone able to attend the AGM on Wednesday. A number of parents volunteer their time on the School Board and the HRC and make a real difference to the life of our school. This was a great opportunity to hear more of the work that they have done this year, for all of us and to learn of some of t he plans for 2018. Once all reports are in, we will send you the links so that you have the opportunity to take a close look. Thank you indeed.
A Pastoral letter fro Bishop Holohan, Chair of the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia is attached below for your information.

CLASS ARRANGEMENTS 2018
Thank you to the many parents who came in this morning and helped their children to feel excited and enthusiastic about their 2018 class with positivity and reassurance. Many appreciative comments have been expressed about the children knowing their classes for next year at this early stage. We do this prior to our class transition morning on Wednesday when children move to their new class and meet their teacher. Some classes have not been regrouped. This strikes a balance between broadening friendships (regrouping) and deepening friendships (staying the same). With this in mind, children will be regrouped at least every two years.
Here at Holy Rosary we are blessed to have excellent teachers who all work very hard to provide an excellent Catholic education where Christian values are central to everyday school life. Teachers at Holy Rosary regularly ask students to think about what Jesus would do if he were in their situation and we encourage our parents to do the same. In particular, when it comes to class lists for the following year, teachers painstakingly put a lot of thought and time into the organisation of these classes, considering all the variables and looking at the big picture as well as what is best for each child. It was disappointing to see parents going through a class list with their child and openly belittling other children and teachers. This is an inappropriate reaction, not good modelling for their children or others and inherently unchristian. In a school that is truly Christ centred, we would expect to see our parents focusing on all the positive things that go on within our school community, the fantastic students we have here and the wonderful teachers that work so hard to make our school a great place to be.

RE NEWS
RE NEWS
WHAT IS ADVENT?
Advent is the season that begins the liturgical year. It consists of four Sundays starting with the Sunday closest to November 30th. The word advent is derived from the Latin adventus, which means "coming" or "arrival." For Christians, Advent is the time when the church patiently prepares for the coming of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
WHAT IS THE CHURCH'S FOCUS DURING ADVENT?
Advent is the first part of a larger liturgical season that includes Christmas and Epiphany and continues until the beginning of Lent. Even though Advent occurs in the month of December and is usually considered to be a prelude to Christmas, it is not simply about waiting for the birth of Christ. We celebrate Advent to remind us of God, that God is in our -- past, present, and future. First, we remember the Lord's humble first coming in Bethlehem two thousand years ago. Second, we give thanks for His present and continual coming to us through Word and Sacrament. Finally, we look forward with hope and longing to His second coming in glory to judge the living and the dead on the Last Day.

THANK YOU to YOU!
As the end of year approaches we would like to take time out and thank a special group of people, those people being YOU – the Holy Rosary School Community.
The Holy Rosary School community includes all the parents, grandparents, carers, friends, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters, neighbours, staff and of course students. A BIG thanks to you all for supporting all our fundraising efforts throughout the year and especially the last half of the year.
To let you know how we went (including some late money coming in), below is a summary of the amounts we’ve raised in Term 3 and 4…
$1,491 = Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
$18,468 = Lap-a-thon
$9,225 = Bogan Bingo
$625 = Bad Moms Movie Night
$29,550 = TOTAL RAISED VIA FUND RAISING TERM 3 & 4
In addition there were some funds from the Father’s Day breakfast (however we don’t have the final amount raised) which boosts our total to over $30,000.
Thank you for helping us raise $30,000 these last 2 terms – that is AMAZING!
Siena Car Wash and Sausage Sizzle - The Siena Car Wash and sausage sizzle raised $2,350.05 – thanks to the incredible support of the community.
The Siena team thanks and congratulates everyone who participated in any way in the Siena car wash and sausage sizzle.
The response to the event was well above what was ever anticipated. We have made a great start to providing the funds needed for a wheelchair swing to be installed in the school playground for the use of the children in a wheelchair. As you can imagine the cost of this specialised play equipment is quite high.
It was a perfect day to host the first ever car wash at Holy Rosary! The weather was on our side to assist with drying of cars and the washers! Armed with buckets, mops, sponges, hoses and music arrived a throng of expert washers rostered throughout the time to help in the washing process; to keep the barbecue going to cook the sausages; and to entertain everyone with inspiring music. Then the cars started to arrive and the fun began!
Our team consist of:
Organiser extraordinaire, Narelle Hyndes
Siena children, Siena parents and siblings.
Aunts, uncles, cousins and a grandparents
Friends both young and old
Siena staff and husbands
Members of the general school community both young and old
