BAS Weekly Blast
September 25, 2021
Good morning BAS Families,
Thank you for joining us at Back to School Night! We hope you enjoyed meeting our BAS Staff. We are hitting our stride and really settling into our routines. Students are actively engaged in learning and appear to be very happy in school. Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to a lot of exciting days ahead.
Have a great weekend!
Lourdes Murphy
PS: The students looked FABULOUS at picture day. I am sure you will LOVE the pictures.
Start with Hello
BAS celebrated Start with Hello Week with activities that engaged the students in ways to spread kindness, include everyone, and help us all feel more connected. Grade 2 students read announcements over the loud speaker, classes participated in ice breakers during snack and a bulletin board was created with student ideas of what to do if you see someone lonely during lunch and recess. Start with Hello is a great way to kick off the new school year.
Pomptonian and Food Allergies
Please see the attached links from Pomptonian Food Services, the district provider regarding food allergy practices and details on pre-ordering lunch.
Reminder: Pizzeria Pizza will be temporarily substituted with a Pizza Stromboli beginning on Friday 9/24.
Technology Support
For any family in need of tech or email support, please email cps-tech@cranfordschools.org.
CRANFORD PARENT ACADEMY
Cranford Public schools are implementing the six principles of Full Value, a program that supports our student’s social and emotional learning, to co-create a successful learning environment among students, faculty, staff, administration, and parents. This year our Parent Academy programs will incorporate these Full Value principles into each presentation or workshop.

Pets on School Property
Please refrain from bringing your dog right up to the pick up and drop off locations.
We have a number of students that are allergic to dogs and/or that are uncomfortable around animals and want to make sure that everyone is comfortable as they enter and exit the building.
Please be mindful of cleaning up after your dog on school grounds as well. We are enjoying all of the school grounds for snack, lunch, and recess.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Mask Mandate
Please remember that there is an indoor mask mandate in all of our schools. (Executive Order No. 251) Masks must be worn by students, staff, and visitors while in the school building. Please make sure that masks are on prior to entering the school building. There are a few exceptions that will make masks optional. These exceptions can be found HERE. It is important that you speak to your child about what you want them to do when it is a mask optional situation. The teacher is not able to record and monitor each parent/guardian request regarding mask optional moments.

Home Instruction
When the District is confronted with the incidents of COVID-19 positive cases and is required to exclude/quarantine a student based on the current NJDOH guidance, they will be provided with virtual home instruction. This approach will provide more personalized instruction for your child without students having to be in front of the computer for the entire day. Additionally, it will allow the teacher to continue providing high-quality instruction for all students without having to split their attention between students in the classroom and those who may be at home.
At the elementary/middle school level:
A teacher shall provide virtual home instruction for 5 hours per week (1 hour per each core class) and provide 5 hours of additional guided-learning experiences that may include the use of technology to provide audio and visual connections to the student’s classroom
Travel
While there is no statewide travel advisory or mandate in place at this time, it is strongly recommended that individuals follow the CDC COVID-19 travel recommendations. The CDC recommends that travel be delayed for those who are not fully vaccinated. If travel cannot be delayed, domestic and international travelers who are not fully vaccinated should get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if they test negative. If testing is not completed post-travel, individuals should self-quarantine for 10 days. International travelers who are fully vaccinated should also get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel, self-monitor for symptoms, and isolate and get tested if symptoms develop. For those traveling to/from New Jersey, domestic travel is defined as lasting 24 hours or longer to states or U.S. territories other than those connected to New Jersey, such as Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware.
